Japanese game designer Tomonobu Itagakiknown for creating a series of fighting games Dead or alive and relaunching the hardcore franchise Ninja gaiden, announced a full return to the industry – he opened an independent studio Itagaki Games, which will develop a completely new project…
“For the last four years I have been teaching, but now I have a renewed desire to create games, and it is for this purpose that I am opening a new studio,” Itagaki said on his personal blog.
The developer also noted that he would be happy to enter into partnerships with Microsoftif she is interested in it.
It so happened that a significant part of his career as a game designer devoted specifically to working with the consoles of the American giant. The opportunity to partner with Microsoft again would be a “great honor” for Itagaki.
No details about the first project Itagaki Games not now. It is likely that the studio is just making its very first steps.
Tomonobu Itagaki began to actively collaborate with Microsoft in 2000, when it was preparing the launch Xbox and was looking for partners in Japan. At that time, the game designer was the face of the studio Team Ninja and happily agreed to create for the American console Dead or Alive 3, since the idea of working with the most powerful hardware on the market attracted him very much.
After Dead or Alive 3, Itagaki has created several more Xbox and Xbox 360 games, including Dead or Alive 4, Ninja gaiden and Ninja gaiden ii… In the second half of the 2000s, he quarreled with his superiors and left the Team Ninja studio, founding his own studio Valhalla Game Studios… She quickly found a partner in the face of a Western publishing house THQ and started working on a multi-platform action game Devil’s third… The production process went well and the initial public reaction to the game was positive, but in 2012 THQ went bankrupt, as a result of which it could no longer fund the development of Devil’s Third.
The world heard about Devil’s Third again a few years later, when Nintendo announced that she would publish this game on Wii U… By that time, Itagaki, left without THQ financial support, had to completely redesign the concept, but the final result was crushed by critics (our review). After that, the game designer took a break and started teaching.
From time to time, he criticized the sequels of his Team Ninja series, created without his participation, and accused the developers of “mocking Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden”. Initial version Ninja gaiden iii failed miserably, collecting 58 out of 100 on Metacritic.
