At the beginning of this month Sony extended trademark rights Sunset overdrive, which sparked talk of a possible remaster or sequel to the game, but it looks like if the franchise does return, it won’t be soon.
In an interview GQ creative director Insomniac Games Marcus Smith confirmed that nothing prevents them from taking up a new game, since they have all the rights to the IPHowever, this stops the studio from being busy with other “really interesting things” that are being prepared for the future.
However, Smith prefers to stick with the never say never approach and would like to work on a new Sunset Overdrive title someday.because he believes there are many more stories to be told in this universe.
The original Sunset Overdrive was released in 2014 as an Xbox One exclusive and was ported to PC in 2018. Insomniac is now preparing for release Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for PlayStation 5. The release will take place on June 11th.
