Id Software employees explain the reason for the cancellation of DOOM 4

Even before the light saw a restart shooter franchise Doom 2016 release, a number plate was in development for some time Doom 4, which for some reason did not reach the release.

In an interview with the portal IGN id Software employees said that the fourth part was canceled due to the fact that it did not look like a classic DOOM, but rather looked like a series of military shooters Call of duty.

According to executive producer Doom eternal Marty StrattonDoom 4 had many similarities with works from Activision. Instead of the traditional action in the Doom style, the game offered a more “cinematic” gameplay. At some point, the authors decided that this concept was too far from expectations.

The developer also emphasized that the game itself was not bad, but from DOOM it had only one name and a small part of the familiar elements of the series. In turn, the game director Hugo Martin added that the decision to cancel was not easy.

“To abandon a game, especially a high-quality one, which simply did not achieve its goal, is a difficult decision for each developer, since many people spent a lot of time creating it.”

The next part of the cult series, DOOM Eternal, comes out 20th of March on the PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox one. Later the version for Nintendo switch.
