To the editors of the portal Gamemag.ru a new smartphone from the company came to the test Huawei – P40 Lite E (second name is Huawei Y7p). The official price of the device in Russia is 12,999 rubles.
It is located in a niche between state employees and gadgets of the middle price category. In fact, this is such a premium option for those who want the most inexpensive handset with a good set of features and a beautiful design.
Huawei P40 Lite E comes in a classic white box. A film has already been applied to the screen. The kit also includes a clip to open the SIM card slot, a charger and microUSB– a wire for connecting to an outlet and a computer, a brief user manual and a warranty card for 12 months.
In Russia, two options entered the market: Bright Blue and Midnight Black. The width of the device is 76 mm, the height is 159 mm, and the thickness is 8 mm. For this size, the smartphone does not feel heavy – its weight is about 176 grams. There is no protection against water.
Huawei P40 Lite E is not slippery and fits well in the hand. The thumb covers three quarters of the display.
The first thing you pay attention to is the chic effect on the case. Huawei continues to look for unusual solutions for the presentation, and the new smartphone once again exceeds all expectations – even despite the budget price tag.
The case is made of polycarbonate plastic very similar to glass and has a mirrored 2.5D surface with a luxurious color gradient, which begins to glow with longitudinal neon glare to the edges. Depending on the lighting and the angle at which you look at the Huawei P40 Lite E, the effect is constantly changing.
Sometimes you see the depth of the main area and beautiful light green or rainbow overflows along the edges, and sometimes the depth completely disappears, the overflows disappear and the body turns into a single color mirror.
The black model has a similar effect, but the colors are different and in general it looks more strictly.
Of course, all this beauty begins to get dirty with fingerprints over time, so you can’t do without a transparent cover here (in addition to this, the camera protrudes slightly above the surface of the case). Or you will often have to wipe the device with a special cloth.
Build quality at a high level. During the month of using backlash and other unpleasant moments were not found.
Triple camera with flash located on the top left. A little to the right in the center, designers placed a small indentation of the case with a scanner that remembers five fingerprints and always works instantly.
Additionally, you can use the screen unlock system by face, but I still could not configure this function – the smartphone could not identify my person at the registration stage. Apparently, the beard is to blame, since the device quickly determines the face of the girls. Exactly the same problem I had with another budget smartphone.
The ends are made of high-quality plastic, which resembles metal, and painted in the color of the body with a gradient. On the right is a classic volume rocker and a power button. On the left is the door to the SIM card compartment. In P40 Lite E, you can insert two nano-SIM cards and one microSD up to 512 GB in size.
At the top there is a microphone hole and a speaker on the verge in front of the glass. At the bottom there is another microphone hole, a 3.5 mm jack for a mini-jack, an input for microUSB and, of course, an external speaker. It is standard for a budget price category, has a good volume, but it clearly does not have enough bass and, as a result, the depth of sound.
When listening to music through a wired headset with a 3.5 mm mini-jack, the audio quality is at a high level (but much depends on the headset itself), and the maximum volume is even excessive – about 75% is enough for comfortable use.
The front of the smartphone is 90% huge IPS6.39-inch display Instead of bangs and a retractable camera, designers inserted a selfie module into a small hole at the upper left corner.
The height of the upper frame along with the folding contour is about 5 mm. Lateral with a contour – 4 mm each. The bottom of the smartphone has a noticeable 8 mm chin.
Screen resolution 720 x 1560 pixels (269 ppi). The display is protected by 2.5D glass, has an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9, displays 16.7 million colors and does not support HDR. The image does not break up into pixels, but it is noticeable nearby that the clarity of the P40 Lite E is still not enough. Especially after the modern flagships.
The screen itself is bright (about 400 nits), huge and with excellent viewing angles. It is very pleasant to use it for surfing on web pages and social networks, since the impressive diagonal allows you to put all the elements and text in a comfortable scale by modern standards. In this case, the shell EMUI 9.1 on the base Android 9 pretty nimble and runs smoothly.
Fast page scrolling does not produce blur effects on fonts. Uniformity at a high level – the colors are juicy and uniform over the entire display area. In the test sample, even the area around the selfie camera does not have any darkening on a white background, which is rare for budget models.
Since we have IPS, in dark rooms the black color (especially the edges when watching a video) looks like dark gray. The minimum brightness is 0.4 nits. This is a familiar feature of LCDs, and for true black, more expensive OLED smartphones are needed.
The heart of the system is an eight-core processor HiSilicon Kirin 710F (4 core Cortex-A73 2.2 GHz and 4 core Cortex-A53 1.7 GHz), which works in conjunction with a graphics accelerator Mali G51-MP4, 4 GB of RAM (64 GB for programs) and a capacious 4000 mAh battery. From a wall outlet from zero to 100%, the P40 Lite E charges in 2 hours 10 minutes. The charge lasts for almost two days of active use.
Earlier Huawei Technologies used a similar stuffing for smartphones of an average price level, and now applies it already in more budget models.
The device is pretty cold. During use in menus and simple applications, the temperature of the battery and processor is approximately 30-35 degrees Celsius. In heavy three-dimensional games, after several hours of continuous gameplay, the temperature keeps at about 40-50 degrees.
In the test AnTuTu (loaded from App gallery) the smartphone scored 147,582 points, which is pretty good for a device of this price category:

The company uses improved optimization algorithms, which allows you to run modern games in excellent quality.
In P40 Lite E no service support Googleincluding Play marketbut there is an App Gallery store. When i tested Mate 30 pro, I used a special update installed through my computer to restore most of Google’s services. This time I decided to limit myself to the official capabilities of the smartphone.
As it turned out, almost all the basic programs are already in the App Gallery, including VK, Telegram, Tiktok, Viber, ICQ, Ok, Services Yandex and Mail.ru, Sberbank, Tinkoff, ivi, Okko, Microsoft Office, Government services, applications of telecom operators and so on.
There are also ready-made links to sites Facebook and Whatsapp, where you can officially download and install both applications via phone in a couple of clicks. True, I still did not figure out how to download Facebook Messenger.
Of course, individual applications Gmail and YouTube officially unavailable, but in two clicks you can create browser shortcuts with the main pages of these services on the main screen of the smartphone and use them without problems. The interface of mobile web versions is not as convenient as in applications, but it works as it should. You can use the same way. Twitter.
And here Instagram still not enough. Like many modern games. There are official projects for Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall and Star trekbut apart from being obsessive with his ad “Great sultan”, Of the popular releases officially released in the Huawei store, I only found Asphalt 9: Legends, World of tanks blitz and Cut the ropeas well as launcher Epic gameswhere you can download Fortnite (Huawei P40 Lite E doesn’t support the royal battle due to the insufficiently powerful filling) and some kind of game unknown to me Battle breakers.
Asphalt 9: Legends, apparently, automatically sets the graphics presets to medium, but allows you to change the priority in the settings between high performance, balance and an improved picture. In the latter case, clarity is enhanced. Huawei P40 Lite E copes with the game even if you take priority in graphics.
It’s funny, but in the version of the game from the App Gallery there is no built-in advertising that allows you to earn twice as much game money per view. Accordingly, those users who watched videos for the sake of gold coins on the Huawei P40 Lite E will not have such an opportunity. At least for now.
In addition, I had a strange bug, because of which I could not play this game – it crashed. The solution turned out to be simple – it was necessary to launch it for the first time from the App Gallery store – in this case, Huawei’s game profile was turned on and then the race worked fine and started from the main screen of the smartphone.
In turn World of tanks blitz Works at maximum graphics and sound settings with a package of improved textures. At the same time, the frame rate almost always keeps at around 60, slightly decreasing in cases where several burning tanks fall into the frame.
Of the other three-dimensional games, I did not find anything sensible. At first glance, the store is bursting with a variety of projects, but in fact it is clogged with typical for Google Play fakes “in the style of” Call of Duty, Minecraft, PUBG, Street Fighter, Tekken, World of Warships, Clash of Clans and other clones from unknown manufacturers. But there are no originals …
Based on the availability of the tracking option for new releases, in the near future the company plans to add a Russian hit to the App Gallery Gardenscapes.
Of course, if you wish, you can access all the content using custom firmware to restore almost all of Google’s functionality using PC.
As for the photos, due to quarantine, I could not normally test the camera in the city at night and Moscow architecture in the center, but the nature landscapes and sleeping areas of the Huawei P40 Lite E are good by the standards of budget smartphones.
The camera consists of three modules. Main lens on 48 MP f / 1.8 aperture, ultra-wide angle lens at 8 MP with f / 2.4 aperture and auxiliary (for measuring depth of field) on 2 MP with f / 2.4 aperture.
The system limits the user to 12 MP in basic shooting, but you can use artificial intelligence to automatically process the image at the time of frame creation.
In portrait, night and wide-angle modes, the Huawei P40 Lite E shoots in 8 MP. In turn, 48 MP is available only in the Pro mode, but the device itself switches to 12 MP if you start to zoom in on the image (up to x6).
The best frames come out in Pro mode at 48 MP. This is especially noticeable in the distant details at the edges of the image, such as small vegetation and tree crowns when approaching a picture or viewing on a PC. In professional mode, they turn out to be more clear and not so actively break up into spots. But such images weigh three times as much as photographs taken in the basic mode (12 MP).
If you want to use images only on a smartphone or on social networks and do not plan to zoom in, then it is always easier to use the default mode (12 MP), since the difference will be almost imperceptible.
But wide-angle shooting disappointed. Despite the lack of strong perspective distortion, the picture looks very blurry. On the smartphone screen, this is not so striking, but when viewed from a computer, it becomes obvious that the AI is trying to stretch the image using filters, but naturalness is lost, and the edges turn into a soap mash. At night it all looks even worse.
Other than that, I did not find a macro mode. But in general, taking photographs near you can still be done if you play with focus.
Night shots are not bad in terms of the budget model, especially in the 48 MP Pro mode, if you do not try to pull the light. In this case, realistic, relatively sharp photos come out with a moderate amount of artifacts.
12 MP automatic snapshots with AI in some places still look cleaner, because the program pretty well reduces the amount of “noise” in the sky, but at the same time it hurts small details, like wires, which can blur from this.
When you try to brighten the frame, the image loses clarity, and the highlights are highlighted. Therefore, it is better to use a special night mode or shoot without pulling the light.
In the corporate night shooting mode, the AI tries to balance the image by moderately adding light and increasing clarity with filters. It turns out generally not bad, but the result is much inferior to the flagships.
The Huawei P40 Lite E can take 180-degree panoramas, create short 720p videos with 16x time dilation, take live photos, shoot with time acceleration, and so on.
The basic videos are of good quality at 1080p 60 FPS, but the smartphone lacks good stabilization, so it’s better to use a tripod for your smartphone or a special stabilizer to record videos.
There is no option to record 4K video.
With wide-angle shooting, you cannot record videos at 60 FPS – only 720p and 1080p at 30 FPS are available.
As for the selfie camera (8 MP with f / 2.0 aperture), it is pretty standard and allows you to make pretty good ones in bright rooms. With insufficient light, artifacts become very noticeable – especially in the background.
You can use the AI focus mode, which nicely blurs the backdrop, but sometimes it can cut individual strands of hair according to the silhouette of your hairstyle.
Video playback formats: 3gp, mp4.
Audio: mp3, mp4, 3gp, ogg, amr, aac, flac, wav, midi. It also uses proprietary technology for adjusting sound and improving the quality of audio playback of Huawei Histen.
Navigation systems: GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo.
The smartphone supports Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n, 2.4 GHz (5 GHz is not supported), Bluetooth 5.0, FM radio, 4G FDD LTE (ranges 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20 ), 4G TDD LTE (bands 34/38/39/40/41), 3G WCDMA (bands 1/2/4/5/8) and 2G WCDMA (bands 2/3/5/8 (850/900/1800 / 1900 MHz)).
NFC is not supported.
Huawei P40 Lite E – This is a good smartphone with a great design, a large bright screen, a triple camera and a capacious battery. With the active filling of the App Gallery, the lack of official support for Google services is not as strong a problem as before. Therefore, if you are on a budget, then it is quite possible to take a closer look at this device. Well, or, as an option, you can always take a budget Huawei P Smart Z, in which the camera is a little worse and not such a beautiful effect on the case, but there is an FHD + screen, NFC and all Google services.
