Aegis is coming home?

The OG tale, which began in 2018 with the open qualifiers for The International, continues. It has been noted more than once that when it comes to the main tournament of the year, the team is changing. And this time OG not only won, but did it in her usual manner with insane drafts and no less insane fights. Although OG, it seems, in principle, does not stop experimenting and always plays some kind of game of its own, but only in the course of the DPC it did not bring any results.

Things were different at the qualifiers. OG remembered Chen, who was ignored by teams in all regions, Alchemist and Disruptor – they also had not been taken on a regular basis for several months. Some of OG’s experiments turned out to be less successful, such as with Zeus, Bristleback or Void Spirit. However, the team’s draft never turned out to be without ideology: behind each pick there was a strategy, it was just that it was not always possible to implement it.

OG gained a significant advantage thanks to the variability in drafts – the roster picked more than 40 heroes per qualification (Tundra has only 21). In addition to the fact that OG had many characters in the pool, they could also be used in different positions, as in the case of Magnus (Ceb and SumaiL played on it), Naga Siren (n0tail and SumaiL) and Hoodwink (Topson and Saksa) …

OG’s greatest strength in qualifying was the ability to combine his crazy ideas with meta strategies. The team could show a super-aggressive Dota without a pronounced carry with cores in the form of Magnus, Beastmaster and Pangolier, and then, as if nothing had happened, choose Terrorblade and send SumaiL to farm. OG borrowed developments from other regions, for example, the Templar Assassin carry through Aghanim’s Scepter from Southeast Asia and China, and diluted their own strategies with them. Therefore, watching the matches of the n0tail team was very exciting, because at the end of the draft, the team could completely confuse the viewer (and opponents), and after 15 minutes clearly demonstrate how this peak should work and win.
