Free Fortnite! Tim Goes Against Tim: Epic Games Sues Apple After Removing Fortnite From App Store

Earlier today the company Apple removed popular battle royale Fortnite from the store App Storethereby depriving Epic Games a large portion of the income. She made such a decision after the developers added a direct payment system to the game, which was not approved by the American corporation. The creators of the multiplayer hit are tired of giving 30% of their iOS revenue to Apple, and the platform holder is ready to work only on their own terms.

In response to the actions of the “Apple” giant, Epic Games filed a lawsuit in court and through the official Twitter account of Fortnite published relevant legal documents. The lawsuit mentions “Anticompetitive restrictions and monopolistic practices flourishing in the App Store” Apple. Tim Sweeney thinks that 30% commission is too much.

Journalists note that the abrupt decision of Apple, defending its interests, could lead to the fact that the multimillion army of Fortnite fans using the iPhone and iPad will lose the opportunity to play the battle royale after its next update – there will be nowhere to download the update officially, since the game pages in The App Store is gone.

“It’s like a ticking time bomb,” writes Eurogamer editor Tom Phillips. Fortnite will receive the next update in two weeks.

The hashtag #FreeFortnite or “Free Fortnite” began to gain popularity on the Internet… It is used by both ordinary gamers and industry figures, such as the host of The Game Awards, Jeff Kayley.

Meanwhile, the creators of the battle royale released a short video called Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite, which was broadcast directly in the game itself. He parodies a commercial from a famous director Ridley Scott for Apple called “1984”, which plays on the plot of the dystopian novel of the same name by George Orwell.

At the end of the video, you can see the following message:

“Epic Games has challenged the App Store monopoly. In response, Apple has blocked Fortnite on billions of devices. Join the fight to keep 2023 from becoming 1984.”
