Forbes journalist complained that Sony did not send a key to The Last of Us: Part II. In response, he was convicted of hypocrisy

Journalist Forbes Eric Cain in his microblog on Twitter complained about Sony, which did not send a key to The Last of Us: Part II. In the ensuing discussion, he was convicted of hypocrisy.

Recall, due to the leak of spoilers for the game, the Japanese platform holder with the help of lawyers from Muso tnt started banning in social networks and on various communication platforms all discussions, videos and memes on the game from the studio Naughty dog. Most of all went to YouTube bloggers with a small audience, as well as completely random people who might not even discuss spoilers at all. At the same time, many specialized media tried to ignore the scandal surrounding the bans, although the notes about the spoiler leak came out based on official press releases from Sony.

Original commentators, including former employee Blizzard Mark Kern, suggested that the key was not sent to Cain as punishment for covering the incident and the wave of bans. But the journalist emphasized that he practically did not touch on this problem: he mentioned the leak of spoilers, he did not speak about the wave of bans. He considers the last topic “uninteresting” and claims that he was not obliged to cover it, because it is difficult to collect evidence and catch all the signals, because the video can be deleted.

In response, Cain was accused of hypocrisy and lack of professionalism. Further, the Forbes employee began to dig himself deeper. So, he does not consider the story of the wave of Sony’s DMCA bans as important gaming news in 2023, as no one is talking about it. At the same time, the journalist arrogantly added that he was not receiving news through YouTube. He also acknowledged censorship in American publications.

“I think that sometimes people also forget that journalists can’t just cover everything they want. Many publications will say no. Editors will decide whether to cover something in the news. Journalists have limitations that are not YouTube bloggers, “he wrote.

The final chord was Cain’s statement that bloggers are obligated to start working with “professional” journalists, and not make “stupid videos”.

Despite all these disassemblies, it’s not fully understood the reasons why Sony did not give Cain the key to the review. However, the version with the “punishment” of the Forbes editorial staff should not be completely discarded, as materials from other authors were published on the site, one of which covered the decision of Naughty Dog to disable comments on Twitter posts.
