The editorial board of the portal Gamemag.ru got a hot new product of May – a smartphone Honor 30 Pro +. This is the new flagship of the brand for 2023, equipped with the latest technologies, including support 5G For Russia. Device is standing 54 990 rubles.
Honor 30 Pro + comes in a classic white case, where it lies securely on a special stand, packed in a protective film. The kit also includes a transparent silicone case, a meter wire of USB Type-A format – USB Type-C for charging and connecting to a PC, a clip for opening a SIM card slot, a charger with a function Super charge (up to 40W) and an adapter with USB Type-C to 3.5 mm minijack for connecting classic headsets or headphones.
Two colors will be presented on the market – silver (like ours) and black.
The dimensions of the smartphone are 73 x 160 x 8 mm. Weight 190 grams. The gadget does not feel heavy and fits comfortably in your hand. The thumb covers three quarters of the screen. Build quality at a high level. The materials are very nice to the touch.
The manufacturer continues to surprise with the design of the case, coming up with new and unusual effects and their combinations. The silver Honor 30 Pro + has an absolutely luxurious glass cover with a deep overflow, sea glass effects, metallic luster and the illusion of volume. Depending on the viewing angle and light, the smartphone may appear silver, gray, pearl, blue, purple and even white.
The large HONOR inscription reflects light, glows in the bright sun and looks flat, but under certain angles its letters begin to fall inward, as if forming a well effect. Or vice versa – they become voluminous, rising above the surface of the gadget. It looks very beautiful and unusual.
The case has a metal frame. Protection class IP54 implies dust protection (a certain amount of dust can still get inside, but does not interfere with the operation of the device) and protection against splashes. That is, to shoot under water and drop the smartphone into the bath is not recommended.
The case is quite easily soiled (but not the screen, which has an excellent oleophobic coating) and is slippery. In addition, the huge main camera protrudes strongly beyond the back cover, so for reliability and safety of the device it is better to use a protective case.
It is worth noting that even with the case that comes with the kit, the Honor 30 Pro + does not lie exactly on the surface of the table, since the part of the silicone that frames the camera protrudes slightly beyond the main plane of the case.
There are no controls on the left side. There is only a small strip under which one of the antennas is located.
On the right side there are physical buttons for turning on the device and changing the sound volume, as well as two strips with additional antennas.
At the top there are speakers, an infrared emitter, a microphone and two more bands with antennas.
At the bottom there is a slot for two nano-SIM cards (you can put a proprietary memory card instead of the second NM Card 256 GB – an expensive and rare format for Russia from Huawei Technologies), input USB Type-C, two bands of antenna, speakers and microphone (do not confuse it with a hole to open the SIM card slot!).
Honor designers continue to use smart antenna layouts, which, depending on the position of the device in space, amplify the signal from a certain side. Thus, the quality of the connection is balanced, for example, when the user holds the smartphone with both hands while playing the same game. Fortnite.
When you turn on the music, the Honor 30 Pro + starts working like a wireless stereo speaker with enough volume for indoor use. The sound quality is normal. There is support Histen 6.0.
Pop music, podcasts, and movies sound good, as do songs that use a small amount of instruments. But in complex instrumental works, some sounds can merge together, and there is not enough bass, which is why such tracks lack depth.
Due to the high-quality stereo, the smartphone is great for listening to binaural ASMRPodcasts without headphones.
In the headphones (both via USB Type-C and through the adapter to the minijack), the maximum volume is adequate, but not excessive, and excellent bass appears, but the latter already depends more on the quality of the headset itself.
It is a pity that the smartphone does not have a separate mini-jack input, and the adapter from the kit, unlike the charging wire, is very thin.
The fingerprint sensor is located in the screen itself and works instantly when you put your finger on the glass. At the same time, the smartphone highlights the area of the screen at the finger, which creates a nice light effect.
Instantly triggering and unlocking the device through the front camera. Unlike budget models, the Honor 30 Pro + dual selfie camera recognizes an unshaven male face without any problems. It’s also very convenient that you can initiate an automatic check every time you lift the phone up.
90% of the front surface of the smartphone is a huge 6.57-inch OLEDdisplay with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and updating the screen to 90 Hz inclusive. The proportions are 19.5: 9, the pixel density is 392 ppi.
The screen has full support HDRbut at the time of testing the online cinema ivi did not update its application in the AppGallery for this device, so I checked the dynamic range according to Gran Turismo Sport repetitions.
With HDR, the picture is very mellow with deep colors, powerful lighting effects and bright highlights. But it all works in a strange way – only if you turn the smartphone horizontally. When placed vertically, the HDR turns off.
Representatives of the company say that the gadget will receive an update on HDR at any location of the device closer to the end of 2023.
The Honor 30 Pro + has a waterfall effect, but it is not as pronounced as the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. Because of which, there is less chance of accidentally touching the edge and clicking something by mistake.
Bending to the side, the side angle of the screen of this model does not change so actively, so the darkening of the edges is not so noticeable as in the Mate 30 Pro. But at the same time, small black frames are visible – about 1 mm on both sides.
Above and below the frame is larger – with a metal circuit of 3 and 4 mm, respectively.
At the upper left corner of the oval hole is a double selfie camera. It is noticeable – especially if the light background is on.
The image quality of the Honor 30 Pro + is excellent – with excellent viewing angles, deep black and saturated bright colors (but not acidic). The maximum brightness is about 700 nits. Sharpness at a high level – fonts and images do not break up into pixels even when viewed from close range.
90 Hz works wonders. In this mode, the picture is as smooth as possible, which is why using a smartphone is a pleasure – your eyes get less tired. This is especially noticeable when quickly scrolling pages and menus. After such sharpness during fast swipes, I no longer want to turn on the more energy-saving 60 Hz in the settings.
Honor 30 Pro + runs on the operating system Android 10 with shell Magic UI 3.1.0.138. Given the powerful filling and 90 Hz, we have before us one of the best smartphones on the market in terms of the smoothness of the menu.
The core of the system is the new eight-core processor HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G (7 nm, two Cortex-A76 2.86 GHz cores, two Cortex-A76 2.36 GHz cores and four Cortex-A55 1.95 GHz cores), which works in conjunction with a graphics accelerator Mali-G76 MP16, 8 GB of RAM (256 GB for applications and files) and a 4000 mAh battery.
The Russian version of 5G is not cut, which is great, given the country’s plans to introduce technology into widespread use. But for obvious reasons, I could not test the speed of work in the networks of the new standard now.
A full charge of a smartphone from 0 to 100% occurs in exactly 50 minutes. Energy is enough for almost 2 days of standard use with a dark theme, if you do not include heavy games.
The gadget supports wireless charging technology 27W and reverse wireless charging 7.5W.
The system turned out cold. The battery temperature is about 25-30 degrees Celsius, and the processor heats up to 30-40 degrees when working in the operating system, browser and simple applications.
In games, these values increase slightly – up to 35 and 45 degrees, respectively. Even after an hour of continuous gameplay in Asphalt 9: Legends the gadget does not overheat, demonstrating all the same indicators of heating. The manufacturer says that the device has a new liquid cooling system that allows the system to remain as cold as possible.
In the test AnTuTu (downloaded from AppGallery) Honor 30 Pro + scored impressive 476 694 points, being in the top 15 most powerful smartphones on Android.
- CPU 134 596;
- GPU 159 252;
- MEM 113 692;
- UX 69,154;
- Total: 476,694.
As in other modern smartphones of the brand, the Honor 30 Pro + does not have support for Google services, including the Play Market, but there is a company store AppGallery, which is constantly updated, expanding the functionality and range of applications. There are VK, Telegram, TikTok, Viber, ICQ, OK, Yandex and Mail.ru services, Sberbank, Tinkoff, ivi, Okko, Microsoft Office, Government services, applications of telecom operators and so on.
Facebook, WhatsApp and other applications can be downloaded from the Internet – including from official sites. Gmail can be connected through the mail client. And YouTube is turned on through the browser.
Beautiful race Asphalt 9: Legends works fine, pleasing with maximum graphics settings and high smoothness of the picture.
I also tested the tactical turn-based RPG in the universe of the series “Game of Thrones”- it also works very fast, which is not surprising given the power of the system.
AppGallery has a launcher Epic games, so you can download the mobile version of the most popular royal battle Fortnite. This is one of the most difficult games for mobile phones. On the Honor 30 Pro + it works in stable 30 FPS at maximum graphics settings, jamming only at the very beginning of the match – at the time of loading the plane before landing on the island.
Honor 30 Pro + boasts excellent image quality. The smartphone scored a huge 125 rating points Dxmark: 136 for the photo and 104 for the video, second only to the Huawei P40 Pro.
The main module Sony IMX700 at 50 MP with f / 1.9 aperture and laser autofocus, creates vivid and vibrant high-definition frames with a wide dynamic range.
In conjunction with it, a depth sensor and an 8 MP periscope telephoto lens with an f / 2.4 aperture with five-fold optical zoom (as well as a 10x hybrid and 50x digital), phase detection autofocus and video stabilization work.
By default, the smartphone takes pictures in 25 MP using processing using artificial intelligence in real time.
In turn, the 50 MP mode is located in the “MORE” -> “HI-RES” tab – AI and zoom no longer work in it, and you get a more natural image (for example, the night does not look like evening).
But the AI perfectly twists the picture quality, depending on the scene, adding a bit of sharpness, gently stretching the light and removing artifacts that occur in dark parts of the frame and along the edges of distant objects. This is very important for shooting at night.
Unlike budget smartphones, the device recognizes small objects well and does not confuse them with artifacts, so it does not cover up details during automatic processing. As a result, in reality, the 25 MP mode with AI produces clearer photos than the 50 MP version without AI. At the same time, these frames occupy almost three times less space on the internal data carrier.
Therefore, it becomes obvious why the manufacturer removed the 50 MP mode from the standard settings, sending it to an additional tab – it makes almost no sense to use it.
In addition, the Honor 30 Pro + has a night mode, which significantly enhances sharpness and significantly extends light, but the frames are less realistic, so I recommend using the usual AI shooting mode even at night.
At five times the zoom during the day, the picture remains clear, but then (for example, 10x), some details are already lost at the edges of the frame – especially with low light. At the same time, if there is enough light, with the approach the camera will shoot well objects in motion, for example, flowers that sway in the wind. Apparently, it’s all about fast autofocus. And in the dark with a strong approximation, clarity is already beginning to be lost.
For wide-angle shooting, the smartphone has a 16 MP module with an f / 2.2 aperture and autofocus. It allows you to capture more space in front of the smartphone, while the clarity remains high in daytime shooting – the difference with the main module can be seen only with strong image zoom or on 4K displays on a PC.
In evening photos with a “width”, the difference in quality relative to the main module becomes noticeable – in the dark, pixels and artifacts of the image become noticeable.
Of course, if you wish, you can use the LED flash.
Honor 30 Pro + can record video in 60 FPS with 4K resolution, create 270-degree panoramas, augmented reality effects, HDR images and videos, videos with a slowdown of 960 FPS in 1080p and 1920 FPS in 720p.
The smartphone has stabilization during video recording, which well reduces jerking while shooting in motion.
In turn, the dual selfie camera consists of two modules of 32 and 8 MP with autofocus and the function of wide-angle shooting of photos and videos.
In the standard mode, “selfies” are obtained in excellent quality, including using various effects with a neat background blur.
With wide-angle shooting, the quality drops slightly, but overall remains at a high level for selfie cameras.
Honor 30 Pro + supports Nfc, Wi-Fi 6.0 Plus, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 5.1, and Honor Magic-link technology for communicating with compatible laptops.
Navigation systems: GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo.
Honor 30 Pro + – This is a great smartphone with a magnificent 90 Hz screen, an incredibly beautiful effect on the case, powerful stuffing, a good battery and an amazing camera. With its adequate price, this is a great offer for the market, especially if you need an ultra-smooth camera phone with a nice design.
