Specialists Contextworld confirmed the growing trend of the share of solid state drives in the user market. According to them, at the end of 2017, about 66% of all laptops in Europe were equipped with SSDs. The remaining 34% used HDD. As of the end of 2019, their number reached 93.3% of the total number of laptops sold.
As for finished PCs, the ratio of hard drives and SSDs for the same 2017 was 51.5% and 48.5%, respectively. At the end of last year, the share of solid-state drives was 83%, and hard drives – 17%.
This was achieved due to a drop in the price of 1 GB of SSD volume, as well as, obviously, due to an increase in the capacity of drives and cheaper flash memory.
Experts believe that by the beginning of next year, Europe will completely abandon traditional hard drives. At least in new computers and laptops.
