Denis Villeneuve compared Paul Atreides from Dune with Michael Corleone – review

In an interview Empire director of the new version “Dunes” Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) spoke about his vision Paul Atreideswhose role is played by Timothy Chalamet.

According to Villeneuve, despite the fact that initially the character was written with the fate of being the duke, what his father had become, he was not eager to fulfill this mission.

For Villeneuve, this is one of the main contradictions of the character, which reminds him Michael Corleone of The Godfather – he has a tragic fate, and in the end he becomes what he did not want to be.

Villeneuve also added that throughout history Paul will grow from a boy to a man, as he will have to make various difficult decisions more than once, trying to survive, and at the same time adapt to different dangerous situations.

In addition, Villeneuve likes the fact that the character has genuine curiosity about other people and is not deprived of the sympathy that pushes him to other cultures, including helping to save his life.

The premiere of the tape is scheduled for December 17th.
