While gamers only dream about how they will create their own character with cybernetic implants in Cyberpunk 2077, one guy did it in real life. He built a digital video camera into his eye.
Canadian Rob Spence (Rob Spence) in an accident in 2008 with a shotgun lost his eyes, according to Gamebomb.ru. He decided to use the injury with benefit, so he replaced the lost eye with a digital video camera made in the shape of an eyeball. Unlike improvements in the game Cyberpunk 2077, the implant is essentially a technological prosthesis, and not a complete replacement for the eye, since it is not connected to Rob’s optic nerve. The guy does not see with a new eye, but he can at any time begin to quietly shoot a video, which he actively uses.
The videos from 47-year-old Rob Spence are unusual, Gamebomb.ru reports. They are literally removed “from the first person.” Unlike usual videos in this format, any instant glances somewhere, looking around, blinking and other actions that are usual for the eye fall into the frame. While the battery of a futuristic prosthesis in the style of Cyberpunk 2077 is only enough for 30 minutes. In addition, the eye has a built-in red backlight. He also admitted that he has two versions of the prosthesis. One is made in a realistic style, and the second resembles the eye of a terminator.
Rob Spence is already called Eyeborg, combining the words “eye” and “cyborg”. He made both his eyes himself. They transmit the video to a special device with a screen. Spence can immediately view the resulting image or later upload them to the network. He uses his new skill to shoot documentary videos about himself. Now Rob is already working with specialized companies. He hopes in the near future to establish mass production of such prostheses so that anyone can buy a camera-eye.
