Cyberpunk 2077 – release for PS5 and Xbox Series X not yet planned, final stages of production will not do without rework

Within conferences after carry announcements release expected by many adventure role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 the developers from the Polish studio CD Projekt RED answered a number of questions regarding the cross-release of the game and processing in the studio during the final stage of its development.

On the eve it became known that the premiere of the project is postponed until September this year. Thus, the release turned out to be as close as possible to the release dates of the next generation consoles – PS5 and Xbox Series X. Many immediately had the assumption that the transfer was somehow related to the likelihood of the game being released for new consoles, but the developers from CD Projekt RED did not to dissemble and openly talked about their plans.

According to CF Projekt RED CFO Peter NilyubovichThere are currently no plans to release versions for the PS5 and Xbox Series X:

“I officially declare that as of now, Cyberpunk is moving towards a release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. There are no changes regarding these plans.”

The CEO of the studio also commented. Adam Kichinsky:

“The development of the game is carried out according to the original plan.”

“Cyberpunk 2077 has always been built for PS4 and Xbox One. We have thoughts on the next generation of consoles, but now our efforts are focused on the current generation. This plan is still valid.”

It is curious that back in March last year Adam Kichinsky during the conference with investors, he expressed interest in releasing the game for both the current and the next generation of consoles. Then he said the following:

“If we have the opportunity to release Cyberpunk for a new generation of consoles, then probably we could do it.”

Based on these comments, we can say with some certainty that Cyberpunk 2077probably still look at the next-generation consoles, but at the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X, the game will definitely not.

Another important topic of the press conference was the issue of the so-called crunch (crunch is a term that refers to the periods of constant processing in the gaming industry. As a rule, crunch occurs during the final stage of development of a particular project – approx. GameMAG). The Polish studio confirmed that the team will need to work overtime to complete the development of the project. Despite this, Adam Kichinsky said that they have a plan that will reduce crunch periods.

“Honestly, we’ll have to deal with refining to some extent. We try to limit them as much as possible, but we are talking about the final stage of development. In this regard, we try to be more humane to the employees, but, unfortunately, nothing can be done.”

Earlier on the recycling problem already spoken out co-founder of CD Projekt RED Marchin Ivinsky. In addition, nightmares were reported by developers Fortnite and Mortal kombat.

Release date Cyberpunk 2077 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC expected September 17, 2023. The project is also announced for release on the Google Stadia cloud platform.
