Auto HDR off for SDR games and support for 1080p monitors at 120Hz – Major PlayStation 5 update released

Sony has announced the release of the first major software update for Playstation 5… Update 21.01-03.00.00 weighs 902 MB and is already available for download for all console users.

In addition to well-known improvements such as transferring games from PS5 to external USB drives for temporary storage, preloading game updates, a new screen for viewing prize statistics and cross-genic Share Play for PS4 and PS5, several innovations were included in the latest firmware that were not mentioned in yesterday’s blog announcement.

This goes for the added support for monitors 1080p with frequency renewal 120 Hz and a new option to automatically switch video output to SDR for games and other content that does not support HDR. Two other notable innovations are the functions One-Touch Play and Power off link… The first turns on and immediately switches the TV to the desired HDMI when the PS5 starts up, and the second accordingly sends the console to rest mode when the TV is turned off.
