A good example of the right crossgen: Sackboy technical analysis: A Big Adventure from Digital Foundry

On the Eurogamer website released technical analysis 3D platformer Sackboy: A Big AdventureKey information from the analysis of the game from Digital foundry read below

Resolution:

  • PlayStation 5 is played in dynamic 4K. On average, the resolution is kept at 1620p, which is about 75% of 4K;
  • Legacy version runs at 1080p on PS4 Pro and 720p on base PS4

Performance:

  • Older consoles provide generally stable 60 FPS in gameplay with the exception of minor drawdowns in places, while on PS5 the performance is almost flawless.
  • Slight issues with frame rate retention are only seen in cutscenes. On the example of the opening video, it can be seen that the frame rate in some places drops to 51 FPS on PS4 and to 55 FPS on PS5.

Download speed:

  • PlayStation 5 loads a level from a transition location in 3 seconds versus 11 seconds on PlayStation 4;

Graphic arts:

  • Apart from the PlayStation 5, the PS4 version looks quite nice, but a direct comparison shows many changes. When porting the game to the previous generation, the developers had to greatly reduce the quality of shading, reduce the number of reflections in the screen space and remove the sun’s rays, as a result of which the lighting in places looks completely different.
  • The difference is especially noticeable in cutscenes, while in the gameplay the main cuts were made to the general level of detail, effects and work with materials. For example, the first level is missing entire carpets, but if you did not know that they are on the PlayStation 5, you probably would not even notice it.

Digital Foundry concluded that the games look better on the new console, but the lack of some details and effects on the PlayStation 4 does not degrade the visual experience due to the overall aesthetics of the game. They called Sumo Digital’s work a prime example of the right crossgene and gave Sackboy: A Big Adventure their personal recommendation.
