Review of the cooling pad for the HIPER CP-A2 AIRE laptop

When it’s sultry outside the windows, and you are saving yourself with cool water and an old fan, imagine what your powerful gaming laptop is like, which even on ordinary days suffers from long gatherings in some difficult project. Fortunately, for a long time, manufacturers have come up with a fairly simple solution to solve problems with overheating – a cooling pad for a laptop. One of the manufacturers of such devices is HIPER, whose portfolio includes several models of similar stands.

Let’s talk today about the model HIPER CP-A2 AIRE, which, at a reasonable price of only 1,590 rubles, should offer additional cooling to the user’s laptop with a low noise level.

COMPLETE SET, APPEARANCE AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The stand comes in a large and thin cardboard box with colorful printing and a convenient plastic handle on top for transportation. Inside, it is packed in a plastic packaging bag. In addition, the kit includes a USB Type-A to USB Type-A cable to power the cradle and a user manual with a warranty card. The manufacturer promises 1 year warranty service from the date of purchase.

The HIPER engineers clearly drew inspiration from science fiction, more precisely from comics, to implement the look of the stand. At first glance, this device reminded me with its details of the Halicarrier from the Marvel Universe. The huge 140mm fans of the device and the shape at the edges are very reminiscent of the SHIELD agents’ aircraft carrier.

The stand itself is made of durable and lightweight plastic. Its dimensions are 41.5 by 28.5 by 2.8 cm, and its weight is 700 grams. The base bottom and sides are matte, while the top surface has a shiny crumb texture that feels like a velvety texture. Four soft legs allow not only the stand to be positioned evenly on the table surface, but also prevent strong slipping and scratches – both on the stand and on the surface.

In addition, the CP-A2 AIRE is equipped with two adjustable tilt feet that raise the rear of the stand from 15 to 45 degrees. Thanks to this, air intake from the bottom becomes more efficient due to the larger space, and it is more convenient to type on the laptop due to the comfortable angle of the keyboard. However, it is worth installing a special stopper, attached to the bottom of the stand, into the holes on the edge, so that when used at an angle, the laptop does not accidentally roll off the surface.

The fans on the top, made of transparent plastic, are hidden under a black glossy grille. Thanks to the built-in lighting in the evening, the blades are well illuminated in blue, adding to the atmosphere of the gaming setup. The fans have a working speed of 1500 rpm.

On the back of the CP-A2 AIRE, there are two USB 2.0 ports. By plugging a complete wire into any of them, you can supply power to the stand, and the second USB will be used as a full-fledged pass-through connector, through which you can not only charge something, but also connect external devices, including flash drives with hard drives …

TESTS

When testing the cooling pad, we were interested in two indicators – how many degrees will it help to cool laptop components and what will happen to the noise level.

To test the cooling, we used a stand in conjunction with an ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 GU603H gaming laptop with an Intel Core i9-11900H processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 graphics. When playing Cyberpunk 2077, we got the following average and maximum temperatures without a stand:

  • CPU – average 78, maximum 97
  • GPU – average 77, maximum 79
  • SSD – Medium 50, Maximum 52

With the stand, the temperature was lower:

  • CPU – average 73, maximum 95
  • GPU – average 67, maximum 72
  • SSD – Medium 46, Maximum 48

Testing showed that the average temperature dropped by 5-10 degrees, which is good enough to prove the stand’s effectiveness. It should be noted that the test took place on the hottest days of June 2023 in a room without air conditioning.

The manufacturer declared the maximum noise level from the stand at 20 dB.

Before testing, we set the noise level in the room – it was 25-30 dB.

Then we turned on the stand, powering it from a charging battery in order to exclude the appearance of unnecessary sounds, and the overall noise level in the room rose to 35-40 dB. That is, the noise from the stand itself turned out to be even lower than the manufacturer stated (5-10 dB instead of 20 dB), which is just fine considering that gaming laptops usually add 15 to 25 dB themselves in performance mode.

RESULTS

The HIPER CP-A2 AIRE is a great laptop cooling pad that really works. It is especially indispensable in the summer if you actively use your laptop and it overheats. For 1,590 rubles, you get a futuristic design, minimal noise and efficient cooling.
