The Chinese giant went on to elaborate on the new version of the EMUI 11 user interface, which will offer many new features and improvements.

Changes to user experience (UX) design

EMUI 11 offers improvements to the Always-on Display (AOD) feature, which will now give users access to many customization options.

AOD Themes

For example, you can publish new themes, customizable animated elements on the AOD screen, and also get the ability to display any image, live video, gif animations and much more.

AOD customizations

Along with the AOD improvements, EMUI 11 will offer an updated design for the standard gallery. The updated app’s Photos tab now includes support for a new gesture that allows users to easily switch between Month and Day views.

The Albums tab has a new 4: 3 format and new settings for sorting photos. The animation engine in EMUI 11 has been optimized based on proprietary human factors research. The new transition animations are expected to reduce the number of distractions in the user interface.

Pop-ups can be resized

EMUI 11 also supports a new feature called Live Icons, which adds a set of animated icons to the user interface. They can be found in the notification bar, in the default Phone app, and in other standard Huawei apps such as Huawei Notepad and Huawei Music. Among other things, the shell will offer a new synchronized vibration feature that synchronizes the vibration of the device with the sound of the ringtone.

It will be possible to minimize pop-ups

The updated interface will also get support for the function Smart multi-windowwhich will allow users to resize floating windows and hide them when not in use. All minimized windows will be displayed in the sidebar.

New AI and privacy features

EMUI 11 will bring many new and updated AI features to Huawei devices. One of them will be Multi-screen collaboration 3.0 It will allow users to simultaneously control three applications from a smartphone on their PC, receive calls on a connected PC and use the device as a document scanner. Improvements are also announced for the proprietary MeeTime video calling application and Celia voice assistant.

EMUI 11 will acquire a number of privacy and security features. For example, a new indicator icon will be introduced in the status bar that will alert users when an application is using their device’s camera, microphone, or location data. It is designed to prevent background applications from accessing the microphone and camera, so new permission requests from users will be required to determine the location, use the camera and microphone.

The Gallery app has also received privacy and security improvements, including AI support for device data processing, the ability to remove EXIF data from images, and the use of a hidden album to store sensitive photos.

Huawei has not yet announced the timing of the release of EMUI 11. It is stated that software testing has already started and the beta version of the interface will soon appear on the flagships P40 and Mate 30.
