Remaster released today Saints Row: The Third, and Digital foundry already prepared his analysis.
Spoiler – experts were delighted with the new version of the comedy action movie, and John Linneman calls the updated version one of the best remasters on the current generation of consoles.
The developers of the novelty reworked many aspects of the original, which made the project look more realistic. First of all, due to physically correct lighting and a new character design – their appearance has become much more detailed.
Of course, the innovations are not limited to this, however, it is lighting and a new design, coupled with high-resolution textures and new objects in the frame that demonstrate an incredible leap in quality.
For example, in the scene with the storage, an additional detail was added to the mechanism.
New lighting in general, of course, plays a huge role.
During a bank robbery, from the beginning of the game in the original, the surfaces do not interact with light in any way, which is why everything is somehow “flat”. An additional “depth” appeared in the remaster, due to which everything looks much nicer and “livelier”.
On the streets of the city, the difference becomes even more obvious: at certain times of the day with new lighting, the game looks almost photorealistic – like a conditional GTA V with mods for realistic lighting or, for example, Assassin’s Creed Unity.
In the original, again, everything is much more plastic.
According to experts, such realistic lighting in a rather cartoony game is sometimes simply amazing – in a good way. Among other things, the developers added even volumetric fog and sun rays, and even the gamma changes depending on the lighting.
In general, the developers of the remaster virtually redid everything – all the elements of the original were somehow affected and somehow reworked or replaced. The team has done tremendous work.
Performance is also good: stable 30 FPS on all platforms, although there are still drawbacks on the Xbox One.
In addition, you can disable frame lock everywhere, but this should be done only on the Xbox One X, which works with enviable regularity at 60 FPS. On PS4 Pro and PS4, an average of about 40-50 frames, and on the base Xbox One – less than 40 frames per second.
On older consoles, the resolution is the same – 1440r. On the base – 1080p.
Thanks to the ability to unlock the frame rate, the remaster can be launched on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with 60 frames per second without special updates. Convenient growth function.
