A screenshot spreads across the network, allegedly showing the correspondence of a popular Australian composer Mika Gordon with one of the fans in Instagram. The musician says that he is unlikely to start working with the team of creators again Doom.
But what could be the reasons for such a sharp termination of cooperation after successful work on the soundtrack of a first-person shooter Doom (2016)which became the restart of the 1993 game from id Software, and its continuation called Doom eternal?
Even if we assume that the screenshot is fake, there was definitely some disagreement between the composer and Bethesda.
April 18th Bethesda and id Software released a soundtrack Doom eternal, which became available to owners of collectible editions of the game. Fans of the game immediately noticed that the quality of the music presented there was not ideal, and began to write about it on social networks.
Music shooter Doom eternal consists of many short excerpts, which, depending on what is happening on the screen, the actions are replaced and superimposed on each other. In order for the compositions to be suitable for listening in the player, it is required to carry out work on mixing and editing sound segments. And it is the result of this work that many fans did not like.
In the comments on the critical review of the track “BFG Division” (2020) from one of the fans who wrote that he expected Gordon to work better, the musician replied that he did not reduce the track presented in the example for the soundtrack released last week, but only mixed some works, including “Meathook” and “Command and Control”.
It follows that most of the compositions from the official soundtrack were brought to the game by some other person who, apparently, did not have enough skills for this work.

I didn’t mix those and wouldn’t have done that. You’ll be able to spot the small handful of tracks I mixed (Meathook, Command and Control, etc …)

Earlier, Gordon made it clear that he was not given complete freedom in creating music for the game. Discussing a fan cover for the track “The Only Thing They Fear” posted on YouTube, he bluntly stated that the official version was mixed up by people from the marketing department who “do not have any knowledge of music.”
Gordon also did not advertise the launch of the official soundtrack in his social networks.
