The largest united domestic cinema network “Cinema.Ru” suspended the sale of tickets through Kinopoisk.
Cinema.Ru includes Kino Okko, Cinema Park and Formula Kino. According to the source, the reason for the stop was the call of video services to refuse to visit theaters in favor of online viewing.
This decision was criticized by the Association of Cinema Owners in a letter that it circulated on March 16. Cinemas in the network control more than 50% of the commercial film distribution market in Russia.
Specifically, no one called “Kinopoisk” in the letter, but the chairman of the Association, Oleg Berezin, published a service advertisement on Facebook where users are offered a free subscription in case of cinema closures.
“Kinopoisk”, in turn, proposed conducting online cinema screenings, where the revenue distribution structure would be as close to wide distribution as possible. In addition, not so long ago, the service opened free access to its online cinema for all users without a subscription.
