As part of the online event GI Investment Summit Online, the European head of the ID @ Xbox program Agostino Simonetta from Microsoft said that Xbox One users have spent over $ 1.4 billion on indie games to date.
In July 2018, the technology giant talked about one billion US dollars, so an additional 400 million players brought in less than two years.
Program launch ID @ Xbox was announced in August 2013. It aims to help independent developers bring projects to the Xbox platform. Currently, the initiative unites 3400 studios in 64 countries of the world. Simonetta noted that each of the continents, with the exception of Antarctica, presented at least one game.
Currently, about 1800 indie games are at various stages of development for the ID @ Xbox program.
“Of course, we are not a publisher – we are a platform. We do not know how many will get to the release and when it will happen, but it’s hard not to note the increased activity,” Simonetta said.
During the seven-year work of the initiative ID @ Xbox independent studios have released about 1,300 indie games.
