Edition IGN talked to developers from Capcom about Resident evil village and prepared a series of materials with details about the game. They will be released throughout the month. The first publication is dedicated to the sensational Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters.
Journalists found out the length of the feet of the colorful antagonist and learned more about its creation.
- According to art director Tomonori Takano, the developers of Resident Evil Village relied on unique images, and the figure of Lady Dimitrescu ultimately became a real decoration of the ensemble. Even without sharp claws, the central villainess is so impressive that any man would feel small and weak against her background. Ethan Winters is no exception.
- According to the head of development of Resident Evil Village Morimasa Sato, the image of Dimitrescu was deliberately made more pretentious and extravagant compared to the images of the villains of Resident Evil 7, but Capcom did not expect the vampire to become so popular and talked about… “We couldn’t even imagine what this would lead to,” said the game designer.
- “The village setting of the game was established early in development. After that, we started thinking about characters that would become the face of this village and allow it to stand out. In a similar way, we created Resident Evil 4,” continued Morimasa Sato.
- Lady Dimitrescu will not be the only prominent figure in the village. Ethan will also meet other personalities and opponents, no less important to the story. The developers will not reveal all the cards.
- The creation of Alsina Dimitrescu began with the fact that the authors took the model Mia from Resident Evil 7 and tried to complement her with a dress and a hat. The idea was to create a ghostly female character that would periodically scare players (and according to insiders, the ghost figure did appear in early prototypes of Resident Evil Village). “I thought it would be enough, but the result was not very impressive. So I decided to create a character that is taller than ordinary people, and this led to the birth of Lady Dimitrescu. I drew a woman who bends to walk through the doorway, and immediately felt like I was on the right track, “explained designer Takano.
- Having received a successful image, the developers began to discuss how it can be improved, and at the same time they began to prepare a suitable base for it. It was decided that Dimitrescu would become the mistress of a Gothic castle inhabited by women. “We wanted the Countess to be intimidating and perceived as a boss, and we tried different approaches. For example, we considered the idea of making her look like a monster, but eventually we realized that growth, the idea of a female figure towering over everyone, is the best tool.” Further tests showed that the domineering vampire is really scary.
- While working on the details of Lady Dimitrescu’s appearance, Tomonori Takano was inspired by the women’s fashion of the 1960s, the roles of the actress Audrey Hepburn and the characters of The Addams Family.
- Lady Dimitrescu is not the only inhabitant of the village Gothic castle to stalk Ethan Winters. She is known to be helped by her own daughters. The eldest is called Bela, and she is described as the quietest and most reasonable; the middle one, Cassandra, is a sadist who enjoys the process of killing people; and the youngest, Daniela, is the craziest in the family.
- Capcom decided to make Dimitrescu the head of the family in contrast to Ethan, who is also the head of the family – he has a wife and a daughter.
- At a certain stage, Capcom considered populating Dimitrescu Castle with a hundred almost completely naked witches, but in the game format, this turned out to be difficult to do. Nevertheless, in the end, the abode of the countess still turned out to be completely “female”. All the monsters that Ethan meets here are female. It turns out that Alsina herself is at the top of a kind of hierarchy, and men are “invited” to the castle only to be destroyed. “In front of the castle, you can see bodies from which all the blood has been sucked, like bony scarecrows, and they are all male. In the setting of Resident Evil Village, women are very strong.”
