Witcher 3 sales skyrocketed with Switch release and Netflix series

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from CD Projekt RED will soon celebrate its fifth anniversary, but continues to show surprisingly steady popularity. Last summer, project sales reached 20 million. It seemed the game had reached its peak, but in recent months it has received an additional boost thanks to the release of the port for Nintendo Switch and the series based on Netflix.

According to NPD Grouplast December, sales of The Witcher 3 in the United States increased by 554% in comparison with the same month of the previous year. Most of this growth came from the Switch version, but even if you put the port aside, game sales in the country by the end of December still turned out to be 63% higher year-on-year. At the same time, during the same period, sales of The Witcher series books in the USA jumped to 562%.

The NPD report also contains some statistics on the Netflix The Witcher series. In the first week of release, the first episode of the show was watched by 19 million American viewers, which is 2.5 million more than the debut of another big Netflix show of 2019, Umbrella Academy. The Witcher’s completion rate was also above average – 75 percent of people who started watching the series watched it at least 90%.

Now The Witcher brand is at the peak of its popularity, so the CD Projekt RED game is likely to continue to increase sales for some time to come.
