And at first they wanted to show it this year, but now they want to do it later – in the spring of 2023. The novelty appears under the codenames Lite and Santorini, and is a modular version of the usual ten for dual-screen devices.
Initially, the novelty is planned to be released on Surface neoHowever, the output of the device itself was also delayed. The system will first be offered to business structures and educational institutions. And then, in 2023, it will be brought to the global market. It will be available for single screen systems as well.
Note that the first release version of 10X will not include support for Win32 applications in containers. At this stage, only universal (UWP) and web applications (PWA) will be available.
The reason for the transfer of support for classic programs has not been reported, but, according to various sources, the company has problems developing fast containers to run these applications. They are said to run an order of magnitude slower than a conventional PC of comparable power.
At the same time, the active development phase will start at the end of this year, when the company will reduce the number of patches for the usual “ten” in order to transfer more resources to 10X. Whether it is true or not, we will find out pretty soon.
