Network Security Specialist Atul Jayaram Detects Gigantic Data Leak from Network Whatsapp. It turned out that through Google you can find phone numbers and correspondence of those who use the messenger.
As it turned out, the app has a “Click to Chat” feature that allows you to start chatting with someone who is not in your contact list. For this, a system of QR codes and a service for shortening URLs https://wa.me/ are used. It was the latter that caused the leak.
The fact is that text messaging is transmitted without encryption, and service data is indexed by the search engine and fall into the general list of results. At the same time, Atul Jayaram clarified that this does not pose a particular problem, since it concerns not all users, but only those who use the Direct Connection.
Facebook has not yet commented on the leak.
