As one of the objects for criticism, the founder of Epic Games chose Facebook and Google, describing negatively their current business models and questioning the ability and desire of these companies to maintain the privacy of their users’ data. In the case of Google, Sweeney also mentioned the site Google play, which is actually the only official way to distribute digital content on systems running Android. Epic Games, according to Sweeney, made various attempts to make the mobile version of Fortnite as isolated as possible, but the Google platform did not contribute to this, and on the contrary, carefully tried to limit any available alternatives.
As a result, Sweeney called the openness of Android “fake”, and on iOS, according to him, everything is even worse, since Apple is trying to control everything.
In addition, in the category “closed platforms“Sweeney confidently recorded systems for major platform carriers such as Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. According to the entrepreneur, the decision regarding cross-platform multiplayer Fortnite was the result of “very difficult negotiations” with these companies.
Following Sweeney mentioned predatory business practices, such as the lootbox system, which in recent years have become the subject of heated debate both within the industry itself and beyond. So, the head of Epic Games is convinced that companies should not use the political agenda as a tool to advertise their games.
