We disassemble Total Lockdown – an unusual royal battle on a vertical map

What is interesting in the new development of the domestic Panzar Studio?

Most royal battles are played on horizontal maps: huge, strewn with buildings and points of interest. Released March 25 Total Lockdownrather an exception. Otherwise, the game retains the rules of the genre: from a constantly decreasing game zone to the only winner among one hundred players. That’s just her card is completely vertical. We tell how this transforms the royal battle.

Vertical game

Matches in Total Lockdown take place in a skyscraper. Each of the 24 floors has its own style and geometry. The player moves between them almost instantly, using stairs or an elevator. Because of this, in Total Lockdown there are no dynamics-specific drawdowns typical of the genre.

The mechanics of the game are recognizable to fans of the royal battles from the very beginning – from the choice of the place of appearance and starting equipment. The map and inventory are convenient due to scale. However, with the general readability of the interface, the players may not have enough labels that have already become familiar.

Ruslan Sokolov: Recently, the ability to put tags is a mandatory function in the genre, which allows you to get information on cartridges.

Olga ah0ra: Without marks it is not visible which cartridges – to which weapon.

The game becomes more intense with every step. At the beginning of the match, a couple of players meet on the floor, and towards the end, each tier is packed with heavily armed opponents. If you want to shoot, the enemy will be there in a minute, but playing hide and seek is unlikely.

Semyon Okorokov: When we ran away from our opponents in the elevator, it was just like in a movie. It was spectacular when the first time they took the top 1 or ran away from the red zone on the floors, barely able to find the stairs.

Due to the fact that elevators, stairs and central halls cannot be avoided – a feature of a vertical card – there is a high risk of ambush in the game. A reasonable solution is to use this feature of the game and organize ambushes yourself.

Cyberpunk and skyscraper

The events of Total Lockdown unfold in the newly gaining popularity of cyberpunk surroundings. True, elements of cyberpunk are more noticeable in the background, in the distance. The city, which players see outside the skyscraper, despite the traced details and beauty, is almost indistinguishable from megalopolises of the real world.

The game follows the famous cyberpunk motto “Hi Tech, Low Life”. From Hi Tech – high technology – the ubiquitous holograms and robotic vacuum cleaners. From a low standard of living, Low Life is the very concept of a killing show. Something like bloody entertainment from Running Man.

The graphics in the game are a dashing mix of a detailed environment with deliberately caricature characters. Total Lockdown spins on the Unreal Engine.

In the arsenal – more classic weapons. Folding shields and holograms are responsible for the futuristic part. In Total Lockdown, the arsenal allows you to attach an opponent with either a bat or a grandfather’s shotgun, or a futuristic wunder-wafer-relstron.

Regarding skins, the developers were inspired by everything at once: from the gathering of local reenactors to the strangest bloggers with tumblr. Cosmetics introduced into the game successfully and without dissonance. In Total Lockdown, soldiers, pirates, and punk youth with Iroquois coexist without problems. This is more decor – skins do not give advantages in disguise.

Panzar Studio skillfully brought to life the cyberpunk skyscraper, which has become the hallmark of Total Lockdown. The vertical map is a new word in the battle royale genre; it gives the gameplay freshness, dynamics and lack of campers. Total Lockdown is already available on Steam – don’t miss it.
