Warner Bros. “canceled” a cartoon skunk for sexual harassment

Company WarnerMedia decided to abandon the use of the iconic cartoon character in all her future projects Pepe le Pugh… This was reported by portal sources The hollywood reporter

Apparently, the French skunk, which debuted on the screens in 1945, was “canceled” due to … sexual harassment. The history of the standard short film Warner Bros. about Pepe le Pugh was based on the fact that the character is chasing a cat, which he mistakes for a female skunk.

Recently edition The New York Times published material in which WarnerMedia was required to cut Pepe le Pugh from the film “Space Jam 2: The Next Generation“(Space Jam 2: A New Legacy), since the character allegedly promotes a “culture of violence”. The company reacted instantly and announced that the skunk would not appear in the final movie.

According to preliminary data, back in June 2019, a scene was filmed in which the actress Grace Santo slaps Pepe le Pugh, who is sticking to her. But after Terence Nance in the director’s chair changed Malcolm D. Lee (the reason was “creative differences”), the above fragment was deleted.

This infuriated Santo, for she believes the studio’s decision has a completely opposite effect. As the representative of the actress explained, the scene with the slap in the face is important, since with its help the important message was conveyed to the boys and girls that the behavior of a cartoon skunk is not the norm in society.

This is not the only Space Jam 2 scandal. After the publication of the first frames on social networks, many expressed active dissatisfaction with the new image of the rabbit Lola bunny… As director Malcolm D. Lee explained, the character was deliberately stripped of all hints of sexuality in order to demonstrate the most realistic image of a strong and independent woman.

Space Jam 2: The Next Generation will premiere on July 16 via streaming service HBO Max and in cinemas.
