Valve: We couldn’t find a game that the Steam Deck can’t handle

Many people are interested in the Steam Deck. It is understandable – a laptop on which you can enjoy the full library Steam… This is the most impressive device imaginable! Of course, the question remains: will the Steam Deck really launch any game from the store? Valve?

The device runs on a modified version of SteamOS and uses Proton to keep the games in the library working well, but the software has been unstable in the past and many fear that the Steam Deck hardware might not be able to handle demanding games.

Valve tried to dispel doubts, saying that there are no problems with this. In an interview with IGN, Pierre-Loup Griffe said that the company has been testing projects from the Steam catalog for compatibility with the device for many years, and although initially some of them had performance problems, in the end, the console coped with almost everything that was launched on it. …

“We’ve looked at a lot of games in the catalog over the past few years, but the projects that came out last year were the real challenge for us,” says Griffe. “They just didn’t work well enough on previous prototypes and architectures that we tested. On the current Steam Deck hardware, we have reached the performance level needed to run the latest generation games smoothly. The projects we wanted to make playable are the entire Steam library. We really didn’t find something that could be loaded into the device, and it didn’t handle it. “

The Steam Deck will go on sale in the US, Canada, EU and UK in December 2023.
