Company Netflix has already become the main platform for cinema novelties, having gone the hard way from niche and budget projects to large-scale action films from Michael Bay.
And now after “Phantom Six”On Netflix pulled up Russo brothersscripted “Avengers” Joe and Anthony decide to film their graphic novel Ciudad about the adventures of the brave Australian commando Tyler Rake. To the main role Extraction Thor of All Russia was chosen Chris Hemsworth.
The story of a private military company, which is taken for the evacuation of the son of a criminal authority who was kidnapped by competitors from the cartel in Dhaka, is made according to the golden canons of the genre – with betrayals, hand-to-hand fights and cruel battle scenes.
The plot on the poor streets of Bangladesh is saturated with predictable twists and pointless heroism, but the authors manage to keep the viewer’s attention for almost two hours.
Rare references to Tyler’s past and alcoholic recollections practically do not violate the dynamic narrative. Hemsworth himself did not go very far in the acting from the role of Thor, taking with the heroic physiognomy the blows of numerous opponents.
Like in the movie “Raid”, The main character and his enemies use Silat’s martial arts, but that’s where the similarities end. “Tyler Rake: The Rescue Operation” is more of an American movie about superheroes glued together according to the canons of Michael Bay.
If you compare the film with the original work, then in the comic book the action took place in the city of Ciudad del Este in Paraguay, but apparently the authors moved to the Asian market, saved on taxes, and at the same time were inspired by The Economist, which recognized Dhaka as the most dangerous city on Earth.
Changing the location, the authors of the picture changed one of the key characters. In the original graphic work, instead of Ovi, the 18-year-old Eva Rocher was kidnapped, with which Tyler later had an affair.
Also in the original comic there was a very tough scene of a miscarriage after Tyler gave Eve a birth control pill. The pregnancy of the girl was the result of a relationship with a guy who was killed during an abduction. The rest of the stories are similar, with the exception of the endings, each of which gives hope for a sequel. In the case of the film, it has already been announced.
“Tyler Rake: Rescue Operation”- this is a solidly made action film with a dynamic and well-set action that suffers from a bit of a holey script and several genre cliches, but even with these shortcomings – this is a very nice movie for one evening of endless quarantine.
