“They contradict the spirit of Olympism”: ROC President Pozdnyakov assessed the chances of e-sports games to become part of the Olympics

Head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov noted in an interview with Izvestia that many e-sports disciplines have almost no chances to enter the Olympics program due to the presence of murder and violence.

“As for e-sports, this is a rather controversial issue. If we talk about games that imitate, create simulations of cycling or running, then, probably, at some point, the question of the advisability of including such a discipline in the Olympic program can be raised. But those games that involve murder and violence are contrary to the very spirit of Olympism. Therefore, for all their popularity among young people, they hardly have a chance to become part of the Olympic movement.“.

Back in 2018, the President of the International Olympic Committee made a similar statement Thomas Bach… Then he stated that “killing games that promote violence or any kind of discrimination will never become part of the Olympic movement”

The upcoming Olympics will be held in Tokyo. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was postponed from 2023 to 2023.
