There will be no presentation, but there will be announcements: Square Enix commented on plans for the future and sales of Final Fantasy VII: Remake

Square enix held a Q&A session at the end of the financial year, during which the Director General Yosuke Matsuda commented on sales Final Fantasy VII Remake and much more.

First of all, he noted that the company was pleased with the start-up sales of the game, exceeding 3.5 million copies in the first three days. At the same time, Matsuda refused to talk about the possible release of the updated jRPG on other platforms after the completion of the annual exclusivity for the PlayStation 4 in April 2023.

“We are pleased that we were able to sell 3.5 million copies. [Final Fantasy VII: Remake], especially considering the fact that there has been a problem with the production and supply of discs due to the consequences of the outbreak of coronavirus. Sales of physical copies were lower than the original plans, but the growth of digital sales increased overall volume, which, as we expect, will lead to an improvement in gross profit. For now, we will refrain from commenting on a possible release of the game on other platforms. “

Matsuda further noted the fact that Square Enix plans to attract new players to the remake, however, the company seems to intend to avoid tactics aimed only at reducing costs.

“Audience Extension [Final Fantasy VII: Remake] is a key issue for us. I will not go into details, but we are planning a number of initiatives aimed at attracting new players throughout the year, so stay tuned. I’ll also note that we’re not going to engage in a marketing strategy based solely on pricing. “

Since the segment of HD games (single player console titles), according to the latest financial results, showed a decline, investors asked Matsuda for plans to increase profits. Square Enix CEO says quality will be a key step in that direction.

“It all comes down to the quality of our games. We will work hard to develop high-quality games that our customers can enjoy for a long time.”

Finally, Matsuda confirmed that this year the company refused to hold its own presentation with the premieres, instead of which it will make separate announcements as necessary.

“Our company will not broadcast live its own show, because the coronavirus pandemic will not allow us to bring together the achievements of all the studios and titles. We intend to announce new games on an individual basis at the right time for this.”
