The Ministry of Communications suggested using television frequencies for the development of 5G. At the same time, the latter are not yet ready to share the resource and talk about problems with broadcasting. We are talking about the frequency range 694-790 MHz, which was used for analog TV. With the transition to the “number”, he remained unused.
Note that back in 2012, Rostelecom, MTS, MegaFon and VimpelCom received frequencies of 791–862 MHz, 720–750, 761–791 MHz and 2.5–2.7 GHz. At the same time, the range 694-862 MHz was occupied until recently.
At the same time, experts are still cautiously evaluating the idea of using this range. According to Viktor Pinchuk, First Deputy General Director for Network Management, Operation and Development, technically it will not be easy, but real.
The deputy head of the Ministry of Communications Alexey Volin answered the question about the readiness of broadcasters to share the resource. He stated that so far the discussion is about discussion, but no more. On the specifics it is worth talking after a comprehensive discussion.
The operators themselves talk about the need for the “golden band” of 3.4-3.8 GHz, which are occupied by law enforcement agencies. 700 MHz is not suitable for them. However, the Ministry of Defense, the FSO and others do not want to share frequencies yet. As a result, this may lead to Russia’s lagging behind other countries in terms of 5G development.
