Minecraft dungeons
Developer: Mojang
Publisher: Xbox Game Studios
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch
Diabloids are usually too hardcore for casual players – and they make up a large share of the Minecraft audience. Apparently, therefore, the creators Minecraft dungeons decided to fix this problem. The game does not have a lot of things familiar to fans of the genre: here you do not need to build builds, take care of damage spikes, boss bosses and farm unique ones. You can simply push forward, killing monsters and collecting tons of loot. And even the harshest critics agree that it’s pretty fun. So why then the average project score at the time of release was only 73 points out of 100?
Just because Minecraft Dungeons is a good game, but a very bad diabloid. The story campaign takes only seven to ten hours, and after it in the Dungeons there is simply nothing to do. There is no end game content, no challenge, no incentive for grind. For a normal action, this would be the norm: it went through the plot and is free. But diabloids are not played at all for the sake of the plot, but for the challenge, therefore the requirements here are completely different. However, it is worth making a discount on the fact that they plan to develop the project further. I must admit that some of the representatives of the genre that are now popular at the start looked no better …
The Elder Scrolls Online: Greymoor
Developer: Zenimax Online Studios
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PS4
The MMO crisis has led to the fact that new large projects are now almost never coming out, but the old ones feel quite good and continue to develop. This week came the great Greymoor storyline add-on for the role-playing game The Elder Scrolls Online. The plot of the plot is standard: the world is attacked by an ancient and mysterious evil. It looks unfriendly, does not make contact, therefore it is necessary to understand not with words, but with fists.
A new location will appear in the game – western Skyrim, but don’t look for old friends there, because the action takes place a thousand years before the events of the fifth Scrolls. In addition there is also a bunch of new content, updating the vampirism system and other interesting details … But for Russian-speaking players, the most important innovation is the long-awaited localization. True, without voicing dialogs and only for the PC version, but thanks for that. Recall that the console version has not yet been released – its release will take place only on June 9.
Maneater
Developer: Tripwire Interactive
Publisher: Tripwire Interactive
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch
Action Maneater in theory, it could have become GTA about the cannibal shark: she also swims freely around the world, performs tasks, fights with people and inhabitants of the sea. It would seem cool! But there is one catch: a shark cannot drive a car, shoot, rob banks or participate in an exciting story. In fact, she can only two things: either eat or not eat. Actually, all the gameplay is made up of these elements. At first it’s even funny, but pretty soon becomes boring (excuse me for the pun).
Especially monotonous was the first half of the plot. In the second part, when your cannibal has access to deep waters, it becomes much more fun. Players are introduced to cooler locations, serious opponents appear … But in general, this does not solve the problem – and rather low ratings are evidence of this. However, this does not mean that the game is bad; it may well give pleasure, just do not go up to it with the standards of blockbusters.
Mafia II: Definitive Edition
Developer: Hangar 13, D3T
Publisher: 2K
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PS4
When the first rumors about the Mafia II remaster appeared, the players hoped that the studio would not only improve the graphics, but also add cut content, make a normal ending … Instead, the fans received only performance drops, stuck textures, disappearing grass and glitches of special effects and animations. If in the middle of a rainy night you suddenly saw a nuclear explosion on the horizon – do not be afraid, this is just a lighting bug with a flash of lightning.
The rest of the remaster does its job: the new lighting system and clear textures allow the game to look great even on large screens of ultra-high resolution. But we still recommend waiting for the patches – we hope that they will not be delayed. By the way, I would like the developers to not only fix bugs, but also return the advanced physics and particle system from Nvidia that was missing from the settings. While they can only be turned on manually, rummaging through the files of the game.
Saints Row: The Third – Remastered
Developer: Volition, Sperasoft
Publisher: Deep Silver
Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PS4, Switch
But in the case of the remaster Saints Row: The Third, we have nothing to complain about at all. There are a lot of positive changes here: for example, increased detail of the environment – there are much more objects in the world, from furniture to passers-by and cars. Also completely wrapped textures, lighting system and special effects. Added support for modern chips such as HDR and new anti-aliasing methods. Otherwise, we still have the same Saints Row, only in a beautiful new wrapper that reveals all the possibilities of modern iron.
This is not to say that the third part especially needed a remaster (unlike the first and second Saints Row, which were much older), but we must admit that the developers did their job perfectly. The updated version of the game is a real sample, which should be equal to all other developers. And it is especially pleasant that the Russian studio participated in the creation of the remaster Sperasoft: new models for characters, equipment and weapons were made there.
