The Ministry of Communications explained why they unblocked Telegram – review

The deputy head of the Ministry of Communications Alexey Volin explained why the messenger Telegram unlocked. There were two reasons. Firstly, it turned out to be technically impossible to block. Secondly, the service expressed its willingness to cooperate with the authorities in the fight against terrorism.

The decision was made by Roskomnadzor and the prosecutor’s office due to the impossibility of technical blocking of Telegram and due to the fact that Telegram representatives began to actively cooperate in the fight against terrorism and drug addiction in their midst.

At the same time, the agency itself, according to Volin, did not advocate blocking Telegram. Moreover, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was in this messenger that the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media worked to help Russians who were stuck abroad. And the Minister of Communications Maksut Shadaev personally collected applications from fellow citizens who remained in Phuket in the messenger.

But businessman Evgeny Chichvarkin said that the messenger most likely wants to sell to someone from the Russian oligarchs.
Recall that attempts to block the messenger were made by Roskomnadzor. Then the office of Alexander Zharov tried to restrict access to more than 18 million IP addresses. But this led to the failure of a number of services that are not related to Telegram. The unlock took place on June 18, after which the service audience grew.
