The Gateway to Oblivion Opened: New Details for The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood and NextGen Release Announcement

Company Microsoft, publishing house Bethesda and studio ZeniMax Online hosted a broadcast dedicated to the new add-on for The Elder Scrolls Online… It bears the name Blackwood (“Black forest“) and is included in the season Gates of oblivion (“Oblivion Gate“).

As part of the DLC, players will be able to travel to the region that is located at the junction between the provinces of Cyrodiil and Black Marsh. The story starts in the city of Leyawiin, which many are familiar with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion… In addition, the developers will allow you to visit the city of Gideon, which was only available in the original The Elder Scrolls: Arena, as well as the Nibene Forest and the swamps of the Black Forest Swamp.

In the story campaign, players will meet old acquaintances: Bosmerka Eveli Sharp Arrow, dremora outcast Lyrant and many others. Blackwood will take about 30 hours to complete.

The heroes will have to uncover a conspiracy involving the deposed emperors of the Long House, which is somehow connected with Daedric Prince of Destruction Mehrunes Dagonwho dreams of capturing Nirn. A new system of satellites will help them in their journey.

Now players can add unique in-game characters to their team, which are controlled by the AI. Each of the companions will have their own background, unique quests and sets of preferences. By participating in battles and helping to complete tasks, dummies will be pumped, they will also be allowed to be customized (you can pick up a set of armor and a horse that are available on your account).

Dangers await all around in Blackwood. The developers are very proud of the new world events – portals to Oblivion. They are markedly different from the gates that had to be closed in TES IV, as we are talking about the early experiments of Mehrunes Dagon.

Everything will work as follows. Players need to deal with the monsters guarding the portal, and then teleport to one of several islands in Dead Lands (plan of Mehrunes Dagon). The target will be the tower in the center. The further the brave heroes climb into the depths, the more dangerous enemies they will have to fight.

Experienced adventurers will be able to test themselves in a new 12-man raid called Rockgrove (“Stone Grove“).

In order to interest new players, ZeniMax Online announced that within two weeks anyone can download The Elder Scrolls Online for free to try out MMOs. From April 1st, a free Blackwood Prologue is also unlocked, directly linked to the Emperors of the Long House.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood will be released on June 1 on PC, Mac and Google Stadia. Starting June 8, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions will receive the update.

On the same day, the MMO version for the next generation consoles Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will be released. The developers promise to improve resolution, performance (60 frames per second), textures, lighting, object rendering range, shadows, anti-aliasing, loading speed and so on.

Already on April 1, employees ZeniMax Online will hold a new stream, within which locations from Blackwood will be shown in more detail.
