The first Lenovo Legion gaming laptop on AMD Ryzen 4000 APU introduced – review

In early April, the Chinese giant Lenovo introduced updates to its gaming laptops Legion, as well as universal solutions of the line Ideapad. In addition, two new gaming PC models are introduced. The list includes such laptop models:

  • Legion 7i;
  • Legion 5i;
  • Legion 5;
  • Legion 5Pi.

As well as computers:

  • Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3i;
  • Legion Tower 5i Ideacentre Gaming 5i.

As you can see, all of them, except one, received the index i, which was done on purpose. This indicates the presence of an Intel processor. Thus, it is a simple Legion 5 equipped with an AMD chip. Let’s talk about this in more detail.

Legion 5 / 5i / 7i

Its characteristics are as follows:

  • CPU Ryzen 5 4600H or Ryzen 7 4700H with heat pack 45 W
  • Graphics card from NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti before RTX 2080 SUPER in the Max-Q variant
  • 8 GB or 16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM
  • NVMe SSDs and 2.5 inches up to 1 TB
  • 15.6-inch IPS screen with 60 Hz, 120 Hz, or 144 Hz refresh rates
  • Wireless Wi-Fi Controller 802.11ax / Bluetooth 5.0
  • Audio system Harman kardon
  • Battery capacity 80 Wh

Base version Intel looks identical but built on Core i7 tenth generation of the H series. There is also a 7i model with a 17-inch screen.

Legion 5Pi

This laptop is designed for streamers. Its specifications are as follows:

  • 15-inch screen with Full HD resolution based on IPS matrix with a frequency of up to 240 Hz
  • Brightness up to 500 nits; DisplayHDR 400 and Dolby Vision optional
  • 10th generation i7 H processor
  • Video card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
  • Keyboard Lenovo Legion TrueStrike
  • Battery at 80 Wh
  • Wi-Fi 6
  • Harman Kardon sound with Dolby Atmos surround sound support.

IdeaPad Gaming 3i

This is the easiest option. Its characteristics are as follows:

  • 15-inch screen with Full HD resolution based on IPS matrix with a frequency of up to 120 Hz
  • 10th generation i7 H processor
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Graphics Card
  • 512 GB SSD
  • Backlit keyboard with numeric keypad.

An AMD Ryzen-based IdeaPad Gaming 3 is also promised, although there are no exact specifications yet.

Lenovo Legion Tower 5i and IdeaCentre Gaming 5i

These full-fledged PCs based on not yet announced Intel Comet Lake-S. Tower 5i will receive a video card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER and the advanced ColdFront 2 cooling system. Gaming 5i will use the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 card. AMD Ryzen options are also promised, but the generation is not specified.
