The audience crushed the series about Anne Boleyn with a black actress – Igromania

Recently released mini-series “Ann Bolein” Channel 5, in which she played the main role Jodie Turner-Smith (“Real blood”).

The plot of the project tells about the last days of the heroine’s life, who is trying to organize the future of her daughter, in parallel, facing opponents in social circles.

The critics liked the series, although there was no excessive enthusiasm – on average, the project has 3/5 points on different sites, and on aggregators like Metacritic it wasn’t even added.
However, the audience did not appreciate the decision of the authors of the project to take on the central role of a black actress, bringing down the rating of “Anne Boleyn” on iMDb up to 1.2 points out of 10 – for 1.5 thousand ratings.

In the reviews, many criticize not only the “delusional” rethinking of the story associated with the cast, but also other elements of the project – the script, tone, and the like. Some point out that even if we ignore the choice of the actress, Anna’s story was simply “distorted”, and Turner-Smith’s work itself does not evoke positive emotions.

The actress managed to comment on the accusations, noting that she was not surprised by such a reaction from the audience, and the authors wanted, first of all, to tell the story of a particular character, without getting hung up on the issue of race.

In addition, Turner added that the creators understood from the very beginning that the project was not for everyone. Judging by the assessments of the viewers, his target audience turned out to be extremely small.
