According to the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will equip iPhone 13 communication with satellites in low Earth orbit so that users can make calls and send messages in areas without cellular coverage.
The upcoming smartphone will allegedly receive a special version of the modem Qualcomm Snapdragon X60that supports satellite connection. Apple is reportedly partnering with Globalstar, which will be contacted by regional carriers. As for the customers, they will be able to use the satellite communication service on their smartphone directly without concluding additional contracts or payments.
It is assumed that in the future, Apple will be able to use satellite communications in several of its products, including a mixed reality helmet and an electric car.
Robert Graham clarified tweeted that the iPhone 13 will use an additional frequency rather than satellite. The engineer and head of Errata Security noted that it was about the 2.4835 – 2.4950 GHz band, which belongs to Globalstar. In the specifications, it is referred to as n53. It is its support that Qualcomm has implemented in the Snapdragon X65 modem.
