Steam users in 2019 bought almost half the number of games than in 2018 – review

Thanks to the latest data SteamSpy, collected from the Steam API itself, became the famous statistics of the Gabe Newell store.

However, the total number of “sales”, which includes both paid titles and activation of shareware positions, decreased from 242 million (2018) to 127 million (2019). At the same time, back in 2017, this figure was almost 3.5 times higher – 440 million copies.

As a result, the 2019th “sales” was the worst for Steam since 2008, when 71.6 million copies of games were activated. But over the year, the average bill increased per dollar: from 8.25 to 9.86 dollars.

Many factors could influence the decrease in “sales”: a huge number of obscene and cheap projects, as well as increased competition in the field – primarily, of course, because Epic games.
