When creating a Steam Deck, the command Valve set a goal that a portable device should launch any game from Steam – preferably without exceptions.
At first, there were compatibility issues, but over time, developers were able to find a middle ground between performance and availability. However, most games should run “at least at 30 frames per second.”
The difference in performance between the internal SSD and the additional microSD will be, however, it will not become significant, and in many projects it will be completely invisible to most. Therefore, even owners of the basic version of the 64 GB system will get a durable console.
In general, Valve expects that the Steam Deck should be enough for several years to come – there should not be such a situation when the platform becomes obsolete literally shortly after release.
