“Star Wars” moves away from the casual: Star Wars: Squadrons surprised and was not the game that some expected

A 13-minute recording of the gameplay of the space shooter appeared on the network Star Wars: Squadrons with impressions Jack “jackfrags” Mason, who said that the game was able to pleasantly surprise him. It turned out to be more complex, interesting and less casual than it seemed at first glance. The developers were able to significantly improve the mechanics regarding Star Wars: Battlefront II

  • All ships in the game are divided into 4 classes: fighters, fighters, support, demolition;
  • Each cabin is unique;
  • All game indicators are located right on the dashboard;
  • One of the mechanics is the redistribution of available energy. The blue scale is responsible for the power of the engines, red – for firepower, and green – for energy shields;
  • You can distribute energy evenly or put everything into one indicator. In the second option, you get, for example, a fast reload and a super shot;
  • You can use the mouse wheel to redistribute the protection between the front and rear of the ship;
  • You can indicate a goal to partners in order to pursue it together;
  • Aiming on PC is hardcore – no auto-help;
  • Before the battle, you need to choose weapons and modifications that open up new opportunities, and not just increase the performance of the ship. Taking out some parts and inserting others, you lose one thing, but you gain another, which balances the gameplay and allows you to play in your own unique style within each specific class;
  • The first person view is the only one available in the game;
  • In Story Mode you will meet famous heroes Star Wars;
  • Flights are noticeably more difficult than in Star Wars: Battlefront II, but not as hardcore as in Elite: Dangerous;
  • The game has a usual desmatch, but the epic battles of the fleets, in which you need to destroy the enemy flagship, turned out to be much more fun;
  • It is necessary to weaken the opponent’s morale strip by destroying ships that are controlled by AI, and then make your way to shield generators and other strategically important places on the hull of the main ship;
  • If you destroy the guidance module, then the range and accuracy of the Star Destroyer will decrease;
  • Damage to the flagship’s power point will expose its vulnerable spots on the hull, hitting which causes maximum damage;
  • The game may seem overcomplicated in the beginning, but it gets interesting over time. Players begin to build deep tactical schemes and customize ships for planned cooperative attacks;
  • Observer mode will be added after release;
  • The game is created on an updated engine Frostbite and looks pretty on PC, including character models, animations, lighting, cockpits and space landscapes;
  • You can completely disable the HUD – the dashboard is enough for the game;
  • There are no microtransactions in Star Wars: Squadrons. All customization, from the head and costume of the character, to the painting of the ship, is purchased with the currency that you earn by playing the game;
  • There are three types of cockpit decorations: hologram, keychain and figurine;
  • The release version will have 6 maps and 8 ships;
  • It is best to play with friends to build tactics in the mode of battles of fleets. This is the most fun.
