Star Citizen’s creators accused Kotaku of lying

Edition Kotaku published a large-scale material about the difficulties the employees of the Texas studio had to face Cloud Imperium Games… According to the author of the material, the management treated the developers without understanding.

As we remember, in February, Texas faced an unexpected disaster: winter came and snow fell. Energy systems could not cope with the load, independent companies made their contribution to the disaster, which increased the bills hundreds of times. As a result, millions of homes were left without heat and light, food supply problems arose, and dozens of people died.

According to Kotaku, employees at Cloud Imperium Games’ Austin office also suffered from power outages and heating cuts. But at the same time, they were expected to continue working at the same pace. And in case of impossibility, they will make up for lost time on the weekend or at the expense of vacation.

On article responded community manager Star citizen Tyler Witkin. And he regarded everything said as a lie.

It is very strange. None of my team have had to work on weekends, and Cloud Imperium Games is flexible and understanding when it comes to everything. I have questioned many staff members and everyone is discouraged. Unfortunately, I have to consider this an outright lie.

Tyler Witkin

According to Witkin, employees were asked to indicate that they had started work, but instead of fulfilling duties, they would focus on their own safety and survival. So no one confirmed the described cases. The community manager himself did not work all week due to problems with electricity and internet, and he was not forced to book it as a vacation at his own expense.
To Witkin’s opinion have joined and others team members. They claimthat the studio management always supported them in any situation. And during the energy catastrophe, the heads of departments tried to contact all employees in order to find out if everything was in order and to offer all possible help.

In favor of the statements of Cloud Imperium Games employees, at least the fact that the studio has absolutely nowhere to rush with the development speaks: the publishers do not put pressure on it, and even the approximate release date of Star Citizen is in no hurry to announce it. In such conditions, a complete shutdown of the studio for a week can go unnoticed altogether.
