Free online competitive first person shooter Splitgate already available on PC (Steam), and will be released on July 27 on PS5, Xbox Series, PS4 and Xbox One.
However, even before the release, console players could participate in the open beta, which developers from the studio 1047 Games had to temporarily disable due to the excessive popularity of the game.
In the first week, Splitgate surpassed 600K downloads on consoles and reached 50K concurrent players. But this success was accompanied by server problems.
1047 Games’ small team of four engineers was constantly working to optimize and increase server capacity, but they were struggling. As a result, the authors had to temporarily disable the beta.
Later developers found outthat their database only supports 65.5 thousand concurrent players. The team is currently working on a queuing system, and immediately after that will change the database implementation to increase the capacity of the servers.
