Sony breaks the silence and reveals all the cards: Details of PlayStation 5 backward compatibility with PS4

The support section of the PlayStation website has detailed information on how backward compatibility will work with games from PS4 on Playstation 5

The company, in particular, announced projects not supported by the new console. At the moment there are ten of them, but it is not specified whether this is the final list or not.… These projects will receive a mark on the PS Store to indicate that they can only be played on PS4.

The vast majority of the more than 4,000 PS4 games will run on the PlayStation 5, and some of them will get improved performance thanks to Game Boost. At the same time, Sony warns that in some projects some functions may not work, and errors may occur during operation. As such, the company recommends that you always update your PS5 system firmware to the latest version, and test backward compatible titles before purchasing add-ons for them.

What PS4 features won’t work on PlayStation 5:

  • Share menu. Instead, the Create button on DualSense is used to create screenshots and video clips;
  • Tournament system;
  • In-game broadcasts;
  • Second Screen and other companion apps;

What else do you need to know:

  • Backward compatibility works with both digital and disc versions of games. In the latter case, you may need to download an update;
  • PS4 game discs cannot be used with the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition;
  • Backward compatible PS4 games support DualSense, DualShock 4, PS Move, PlayStation VR Aim Controller, as well as third-party gamepads and other peripherals such as steering wheels and joysticks officially licensed by PlayStation;
  • DualShock 4 cannot be used in PlayStation 5 games;
  • The new HD camera is not compatible with PS4 games. To do this, you need to connect the start PlayStation Camera through a special adapter;
  • HDR is automatically enabled on PS5, but can be disabled via settings
  • Platinum and Gold wireless headsets, as well as third-party USB or audio headsets are supported on PS5, but there will be no companion app for them.
