According to Howard, Starfield can be called “Skyrim in space.” Chen disagrees with him and rather considers the game to be a “Han Solo simulator” – users will be able to explore the galaxy on their own spaceship. Starfield’s lead artist calls NASA’s chosen style of play punk.
Among the sources of inspiration, the developers name many sci-fi franchises, including Star Wars, Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. At the same time, the first scene in the new trailer, made in black and white, is an homage to NASA’s first moon landing, which took place on July 20, 1969.
According to Howard, the game will unfold in 300 years in the future, and players will take on the role of an employee of “Constellation” – the latest organization engaged in space exploration. When creating a character, it will be possible to set the hero’s past, and the setting will be quite flexible – various aspects of the biography will affect the events of the game.
Howard emphasized that the first attempts to create a sci-fi RPG in space were back in 1994, but none of them ended in success. The plot will touch upon difficult questions ranging from “Are we alone in the world?” to “What is space and time?” According to Howard, the game provides a good platform for exploring such topics.
He also added that the release of the game will not be rescheduled. According to Bethesda’s chief executive, the date would not have been announced if the studio hadn’t been 100% confident about it. In addition, the developers are seriously thinking about creating a movie or TV series based on Starfield.
Bethesda previously announced the release date for Starfield: the sci-fi RPG will be available November 11 on PC and Xbox Series X / S. The developers noted that the title will be the basis for the first new Bethesda universe in 25 years.
