Schoolgirl and the Dark Labyrinth: Lost Ruins Review

Small Korean studio ALTARI GAMES after fundraising for Kickstarter and Early Access has finally released its Metroidvania Lost Ruins… Project, so far only available on PC, is expected by the end of the year and on all current game consoles.

At the center of the story is a story about the populace, which is traditional for Asian animation and literature. A young schoolgirl is transported to the world of sword and magic, where she has to regain her memories and defeat the minions of the dark witch. The sorceress Beatrice helps her on this journey. At first, the girl is completely defenseless against the most primitive monsters, but soon, thanks to your diligence, she can turn into a real killing machine.

Unlike other games in the genre, Lost Ruins relies on a complex system of interaction of magical elements with the environment. Spilled oil can flash from a fiery sword or fireball, and the main character loses speed and dexterity in the viscous swampy water. The frost element is capable of freezing liquid, and lightning will strike all enemies when it enters the water. Therefore, you must be careful when using magic and the possibilities of the environment.

Moving through the maze of levels, the heroine receives new equipment, weapons and spells for defeating opponents. At the same time, the authors do not forget about fan service, increasing the number of cells due to striped linen obtained in battle or increasing the speed of movement in liquid when using a bathing suit. As I noted above, the girl is initially helpless, but accessories and objects add strength to her. For example, one artifact, having reduced the overall scale, constantly regenerates health, while the other replenishes mana reserves. Poison magic can drain health from nearby living enemies and transfer it to you, and the sphere of fire creates a barrier that protects against fast opponents. Fire magic is effective against undead, and poison is effective against living opponents. Monsters and mechanics constantly offer new challenges, and you can always find an item or magic that can help you through.

As in traditional metroidvanias, some of the virtual castle’s rooms are inaccessible here until you complete a side quest, defeat a boss, or find a key item. The pollock itself is not very difficult. Often you are asked to find a lost item or components important for crafting. Puzzles are usually tied to activating buttons or accurately hitting a target from a cannon.

The structure of the world includes points of quick automatic save and special sections with manual recording and teleporters. In such places you can also find vending machines, where you can replenish the supply of potions, buy new weapons and spells. Money is earned by destroying monsters, solving puzzles and selling unnecessary items.
