According to popular YouTube channel sources Gamexplainspecializing in games Nintendo, PlatinumGames studio plans to appeal to gamers with a request to finance the port of the game The Wonderful 101 for Nintendo switch and Playstation 4. Fundraising will be conducted on the platform Kickstarter, and allegedly announce it soon.
The Wonderful 101 was developed with the full financial support of Nintendo and published by Nintendo on the Wii U console in 2013, where the game was a failure due to various circumstances.
When the Nintendo Switch appeared on the market, PlatinumGames employees started saying that they would like to see their project on a new set-top box, but it all depends on the Nintendo solution.
As a result, Nintendo ported the second from Wii U to Switch Bayonettapaid for production Bayonetta 3 and funded the development Astral chain, however, according to insiders, she is completely uninterested in porting The Wonderful 101.
As Emily Rogers wrote, none of the other publishers are interested in further supporting The Wonderful 101, since the original game failed miserably and its concept is extremely difficult to convey to a wide audience.
But in January 2023, PlatinumGames received funding from the Chinese corporation Tencent. Yesterday insider Daniel Ahmad toldthat the studio has the opportunity to “transfer the game to other platforms.” Presumably, she was able to buy the franchise from Nintendo, but the possible Kickstarter campaign indicates that there is no money left directly for porting and promoting the project (according to Ahmad, the studio uses most of Tencent’s financial funds to create its own new multi-platform projects, and not work with old games), and it is for them that the studio will appeal to the audience.
The peculiarity of the situation is that Nintendo never transferred its rights to specific games to anyone. We can only recall the episode with the sale of a large stake in Microsoft Rare in the early 2000s.
Thanks to Tencent PlatinumGames, she hopes to start releasing games that will belong only to her (for almost 15 years, the studio worked exclusively for other publishers). However, she will not give up further partnerships with large companies such as Square Enix and Nintendo.
Rogers notes that Nintendo and PlatinumGames “remain in a great relationship.”
In The Wonderful 101, players control a secret squad of colorful characters who abandon their usual lifestyle to save the world in difficult times. The game is replete with epic scenes and spectacular boss battles. You can find our great review here..
