Royal Bounty: Tencent Negotiates Purchase of 1C Entertainment

Chinese IT giant Tencent plans to acquire a publishing house 1C Entertainment, which now quits over tactical role-playing game King’s Bounty II (“Royal Award II”) The information was published on the portal Office for the Protection of Competition and Consumers of Poland as early as 2 August.

Despite Russian roots, 1C Entertainment is registered in Poland, and its offices are located in Warsaw, Gdansk, Prague, Budapest and Moscow. In particular, the company controls the Polish publishing house Cenega, which became the main distributor of physical editions of video games after it left the market CD Projekt and Techland

Tencent plans to close the deal through its Dutch subsidiary Proxima Beta Europe B.V. The latter previously acquired 22.3% of the studio’s shares Dontnod entertainment, she also shows interest to purchase a German studio Crytek

As the portal reports App2top.ru, Head of Gaming at 1C Entertainment Nikolay Baryshnikov declined to comment on information about negotiations with Tencent. For the release of King’s Bounty II, the publisher has joined forces with an Astrian media company Koch Media, and the game will spread under a new brand Prime Matter
