Review of inexpensive gaming headset HIPER HS-130PRO LUNATIC

There are countless gaming headsets on the market today from a wide variety of manufacturers. Among these manufacturers there is a company Hiperwhich boasts a good line of inexpensive “ears” for gamers.

One of the most interesting models is a wired headset HIPER HS-130Pro Lunaticwhich is only for 1,590 rubles offers virtual 7.1 surround sound and noise canceling microphone.

COMPLETE SET, APPEARANCE AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The HS-130Pro Lunatic headset comes in a large cardboard box with colorful purple printing and a plastic window through which part of the device is visible. Inside, the headphones are mounted on a formatted cardboard stand that holds them tightly in place. Actually, the package itself includes only headphones with a fixed cable and microphone, as well as a user manual with a warranty card. The manufacturer promises a warranty service for the device for 1 year from the date of purchase.

The appearance of the headset is quite simple, but at the same time it has the features inherent in gaming headphones. For example, the bowls have several lines of illumination that constantly change their colors. At the same time, it does not shine very brightly, but it is enough to be noticed in daylight. At night it does not blind the eyes in complete darkness. You cannot peel it off.

The rims and bowls are made of a fairly durable matte plastic. There is a metal plate at the base of the rim, which gives extra rigidity. The headband can be easily adjusted in height. The upper part is covered with artificial leather with a small layer of shock-absorbing foam, so that the crown of the head does not experience discomfort during donning and use.

The cups have a round shape, and the ear cushions are made of the same artificial leather filled with foam rubber. Inside the ear cushions are mesh to prevent dirt from entering the speakers. Inside the bowls are hidden 40-megapixel speakers with a frequency range from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz and an impedance of 32 ohms.

As for the controls, here you will only find the knob behind the left bowl. Also, a wire for connecting headphones and a non-removable microphone comes out of this bowl.

The wire is 1.8 meters long and has a braided texture, a ferrite ring to prevent interference, and a USB Type-A connector for connection. The detachable microphone received a bendable metal boom, which is put on top in a transparent plastic tube. There is no mute button and microphone status indicator on the headset.

CONVENIENCE, CONNECTION AND SOFTWARE

The fit of the headphones is very tight, which is why the cups put a little pressure on the ears. In addition, the latter is also due to the cutout inside the ear cushions – it is round in shape, not oval under the shape of the ears, and therefore, during testing, the lower part of the ear cut into the soft part of the ear cushions. From the artificial leather on the scorching summer days after a while it became hot and sweat naturally emerged. As for the weight, it is 274 grams excluding the wire, and with it – 325 grams. For full-size headphones, the weight is quite standard – they do not seem heavy on the head. But the location of the regulator is not very good – you have to constantly grope it.

This headset can only be connected via a wire via the USB Type-A connector. According to the instructions, HIPER HS-130Pro Lunatic is compatible with PCs running Windows and Mac, as well as with PS4 and Xbox One consoles. While the first three supported devices are generally okay, the Xbox One on this list is bewildering. The fact is that the headset is connected via the USB Audio protocol, and the Xbox family of consoles does not support this protocol. Just in case, we connected the HIPER HS-130Pro Lunatic to the Xbox Series X, but as expected, the headset didn’t work with it. We managed to connect the headset to the Nintendo Switch via the docking station without any problems.

Naturally, the HIPER HS-130Pro Lunatic works seamlessly with a PC – just like a regular stereo headset. But if you install the official application, then you can fully reveal its functionality. True, the existence of the application could only be learned from the instructions, which were sent to the official website, where, in principle, it was impossible to find it before. The problem was resolved after we contacted technical support.

An app called the HS-130Pro Audio Center offers many different features for headphone sound and microphone settings. It allows you to use a virtual 7.1 channel with convenient visual adjustment of each channel and add various effects (including ambience effects, vocal fading). In addition, there is a 10-band equalizer with the ability to save your settings and with presets for different genres from Hiper herself. The microphone settings allow you to apply various effects to the voice, as well as adjust the noise canceling function.

SOUND AND MICROPHONE

Since the manufacturer positions this device as a gaming headset, we first tested it in several projects on PC (Gears 5, Death Stranding) and Nintendo Switch (Astral Chain).

The Gears 5 delivers great surround sound, and the HS-130Pro Lunatic does a good job of panning sounds right in space and adding volume to the scene. The same can be said for Death Stranding, where the journey to unify America sounds very atmospheric thanks to the surround sound, especially when walking in the rain.

In Astral Chain on Nintendo Switch, these headphones managed to get good and loud stereo.

In general, by the standards of budget headsets, the sound in games is very good here. The bottoms are deep and not raised, and the volume reserve is very large.

As for the quality of music playback on a PC, everything is expected to be sad. The HIPER HS-130Pro Lunatic produces very good bass, but the mids and highs sound ragged, distortion is heard, and the EQ setting can only slightly smooth out the problem. The model in question is completely unsuitable for music.

There is only one microphone in the HIPER HS-130Pro Lunatic, and the declared noise reduction is implemented using the official software. In Noise Reduction mode, you can adjust the level of noise reduction from the desired signal, that is, your voice. This reduces noise from sources around, such as a TV in a room or a fan nearby. In addition, the microphone has a package of various effects that you can apply to your voice and change the sound. There are only a few of them, they all sound unnatural and for some reason you can add an echo effect. In general, there are no complaints about the sound quality of the microphone – the interlocutors hear the voice loudly and clearly.

TOTAL

HIPER HS-130Pro Lunatic is a very inexpensive option for players who are saving up for a video card, and are ready to allocate no more than 2,000 rubles for a headset with virtual spatial sound and noise reduction. This is a budget option for PC gaming with a good range of additional settings via an app that lacks a normal visual interface.
