Capcom in an interview IGN confirmed that Resident evil village was originally created with an eye on the next generation consoles – no release was planned on PS4 and Xbox One.
At the time of the announcement last June, the publisher had not yet decided to port the game to legacy systems. However, the desire to make it available to a wider audience encouraged experimentation.
“Through trial and error, we have been able to achieve a comfortable version for legacy consoles. However, if we hadn’t gotten to the quality level we wanted, I don’t think we would have released the game on PS4 and Xbox One.“.
According to Capcom producer Tsuyoshi Kanda, the game should look and perform roughly the same on all platforms – the team tried to implement the best versions on each console.
Resident Evil Village launches May 7, and a 60-minute demo will be available from May 2-10.
